Now that I’m prepping and painting does anyone know of a good (doesn’t have to be Campag) 10 speed group set I should look at getting?
Shimano maybe?
If you go shimano anything 105 or above (Ultegra or Dura Ace) will be great.
Keep an eye out on Roadgrime. There will be full groups pop up on their from time to time. There was an Ultegra group that went on there a while back for $450, which is crazy cheap.
Otherwise it’s ebay.

He didn’t use my NOS Campag dropouts so pm me your address and I’ll send you a pair of rears for your help so far.
Thanks
does this look the goods?

Exage is a low end groupset. Don’t waste your time, there’s plenty of nice 105/600 gear out there from the 90s
Is your dropout spacing 126mm? If so, you can build it with an indexed 7sp group (and 8sp shifters will work just fine if you want to use STI / barcons), or just spread slightly to squeeze in a 130mm hub and you can use more modern 8-10sp.
Or be eccentric and use Simplex Super LJ (gold anodised derailleurs & retrofriction shifters with matching Mafac brakes and ‘oro’ chain/freewheel), Suntour Sprint, Miche Primato, Sugino Carbon 75…
^ thanks the frame/bike was originally built in 1975 so I want to get something close to that…
In that case the spacing is probably 120mm, and it would have had a 5 or 6 speed freewheel.
Campagnolo Nuovo Record would suit. Shimano Arabesque 600 / Golden Arrow 105 is classy enough too.
Thanks
At least I now know what to search for…
You should have got Joe to cold set the rear to 126mm or 130mm depending on what you wanted.
It might be an idea just to measure the drop out spacing so you know what you have.
I’m going to guess it’s 126mm. If you are interested, I have an EC '89 campag chorus and a NOS Regina America Group that would suit.
Measure it and it’s 123-124 with my calipers so I’m guessing 126 will be sweet.
cheers Azz … but i’m good, I have a few sets. I think you should pimp 'em and use the coin for some parts to kit the frame out. I’m very happy for you that you’ll be getting this together again. Best thing I can advise is to but a bike with roughly all the parts you’ll need and pitch the frame on ebay. You’ll save a bunch by doing this instead of buying piece by piece. Really doesn’t matter what kit … anything mid to late 70’s should be fine.
Cheers for posting about JC … he sounds like a cool cat
JC said there room in the inn, I think he is someone we could all get to know better.
Bless you children.
Here’s the groupset I managed to get off a really nice guy on Aust Bicycle Forum
It’s Galli
Marty said he picked up some cheap non-aero hoods from Ridgeways.
^ I’m not sure what that means…I need some for these but don’t know what non-areo means…sorry
non-aero means that the brake cable comes out of the top of the lever, rather than aero levers where the cable comes out behind the lever and under the bar tape.
What snowflake said - the brake levers look like the cable comes out the top from the picture but I could be wrong…
Either way if you need cheap hoods take them to Ridgeways and they should be able to hook you up.
While you are there you should also get cables etc.
Oh yeah - nice group.
Yep out the top…
There are more photos…I know nothing much about groupset parts but these do make me smile when I see the pics…am yet to hold them though…
got hubs and seat post in Galli too
