For the Gerr.. I mean Simons Gerrans fans

https://twitter.com/SockHeight/

fuck that.

and I think he should now be exclusively referred to as “Simons Gerrans” on these forums

Cease and desist, etc.

pretty funny. there was a bit of a gerro shitstorm on twitter yesterday.

^ I missed it- thanks Geoff Shaw

This has all the hallmarks of a PR stunt (for sock height), but I don’t actually think it is. Trinity Sports Management looks to be legit, in which case this cease and desist is utterly ridiculous. In any case its sock height who will come out looking good, while “Simon Gerrans” loses more face than Jens Voigt descending a French mountain.

Wow. For Gerro to have tenable grounds to sue he’d have to have ‘Gerro’ trademarked. And maybe he did, if not his lawyer is not very good.

The question is - why would you do such a thing? Is ‘Gerro’ some sort of brand?

I’m actually surprised they’ve taken teh IP position in the letter.
They would need to demonstrate that it’s unique to him, his property, maybe would have to be registered and trademarked?
A trademark dispute would make more sense?
I think this would be fight-able if it’s an IP claim.

edit: beaten by a mere minute

I think Sock Height meant the wire rope cutting equipment.

It’s just bad P R. The immediate shitstorm and ill will this sort of thing can generate these days thanks to the interweb would, to me, outweigh any alleged infringement of “IP”
and another thing… most Australians shorten someone’s name as a term of endearment, does this mean Gerro is laying claim to abbreviation?

Yep.
It’s just dumb, particularly considering the context it was used in. It’d be like Sir Bradley suing for someone saying “he was going off like Wiggo at a press conference”.

Just stooopid.

ssshhh… you can’t say that anymore… Gerrans’ lawyers dude

dumb. great PR for sock guy though…
