Pity the tools don’t come with the gruppo though.
Tell me about it. It’d make so much sense. First I need a 14mm Allen key, and now this!
Not to mention the torx wrenches to put the ergo levers on…
Now I understand better what you’re issue is. I thought you had the retaining clip in the wrong place and didn’t know how that was possible. You’re gonna need the tools for this and I’ll echo Gypsy’s advice, see a pro shop who has them and pay the price.
They are imo a very good design but somewhat complex so complaining about Campy specific tools for these (especially after user error) is like going out with a sex worker and complaining about herpes.
Well, they’re not really Campy-specific, it’s a bearing puller and an over priced plug. I just don’t think it is that good of a design, but this is coming from someone who does majority of my own tinkering…
Anyway, we fucked up due to lack of knowledge of installing these cranks and BB cups and I’ll be going to Corsa Cycles to see if they can help.
I don’t have a problem going to a bike shop to have them remove the cranks. I’ll happily pay for them to do it… hopefully they can.
EDIT: I don’t mind paying especially when I haven’t paid for any other labour charges to build this bike up.
I feel your pain…
Most bike shops won’t be able to help unfortunately as the tools required, especially if the cranks have been on for a while, aren’t often found in a bike shop.
Luckily my LBS is near a auto transmission specialist.
If you find a shop that can do it for you… pay for it as it’ll be worth your time and mental energy. I’m not convinced PT as it currently stands is here to stay.
You’ll need the CBP-3 as well. About $100 for both…
Torx wrenches make so much more sense. Much harder to fuck than an Allen key, I feel your pain with the crank puller though it’s a pain in the ass, UT is so much easier to service, you could buy my low km SR cranks. 170mm compacts, ceramics, cheap! very nice cranks
Just to clarify, you put this inbetween the BB cup and BB shell? like a bb spacer?
ha i hope not!!!
i think hes forgot to put in the washer
the blue one?
If you try and sell your cranks one more time outside the for sale section, I’ll ban you for a week. Also, why would I buy them when I have brand new PT cranks? And if I did buy them, which I won’t, I still have to get the cranks off anyway.
Yes. Well John Kennedy did.
Anyway, Corsa Cycles don’t have the tool. Gemma has offered her services, so I should be sorted.
I swear that I put it together in that exact way. Where did I end up putting the spring JLN?
Between the BB cup and the frame, not the BB cup and the drive side crank.
HTF did you do that, it has little guide holes for position.
Ohhhh I thought the spring was in the wrong place. It’s that bearing retaining clip that’s on the wrong side of the cup. I follow you now and I totally remember doing that and thinking it was a bit bizarre at the time but just assummed I didn’t understand due to my lack of passion. My bad!
Beers???
It came attached to the bb cup that way. That and my first time using components that have soul.
No but JLN was palping a pretty epic hangover.
More Chianti and a Dremel probably would have avoided this I’m sure.
The UT cranks have a similar bearing retention clip on the DS and it’s weird the first time you do it.
Does anyone know the specs/dimensions of the ‘Campy plug’ for removal ?
My neighbour can knock me one up on the lathe.
thats a bit rough mate
but any way you might find this useful
