Fuck Campy. - Removing Powertorque cranks

The tools needed to remove the Power Torque non drive side crank is ridiculous.

Fucking idiots.

If anyone knows of a CHEAP way of doing this, let me know. I don’t really want to drop $40 on the Campy specific “plug” (and have to order it from overseas) and another $30 to get a bearing puller just to get the fucking crank off.

Where’s the passion?

I think zak knows… Maybe even use the search function, has possibly addressed the issue before.

You just put it on, why are you removing it so soon?

The cheap way is to bribe someone with the right tools. (Gemm?)

Shimano’s Hollowtech BB system really is better, a little plastic preload tool and an allen key for the pinch bolts. Simple as.

New sig, thanks.

Ditto, thanks

Out of interest, Campagnolo have an official tool to do this now at least?

I’m a big fan of campagnolo but power torque is shit.

You could make a similar argument for ultrashift vs powershift.

(My UT crankset is still spinning like a dream after 4 years of all conditions riding and no servicing. )

We fucked up and put the spring clip in the wrong spot (between the cup and the frame, not the cup and the DS crank). I can’t imagine this is going to be a good thing, so I need to get the crank off, pull the BB cups out, put the spring on correctly and then put the cranks back on. Gemm doesnt have the right tools, but she said she knows how to get it off. I looked at SK’s suggestion and don’t see it working.

If I knew the clip wasn’t going to cause any issues, I’d just leave it on there… but I won’t.

And this is why my Power Torque cranks are still in the box.
I need to buy this is case there are ‘issue’ and the crank arm needs to come off.

I like Ultra Torque.

How’s that.

Lbs?

FTFY

Cheaper and therefore a compromise. I’m a fan of UT cranks and have found NOS cranks for projects
rather than buy current model PT cranks.

Zoltan try Corsa - they are apparently one of only two ‘certified’ Campy dealers in Adelaide - whatever that means.

But if you have to pay them money then you may want to buy the tool(s).

pretty happy with my UT too =)

Shouldn’t this thread be in the Help section?

just go to a bike shop dude. sometimes its just what you gotta do. you bought the groupset online anyways, i know your usually the home mechanic but just bite the bullet and do it.

I’ll wander down to Corsa at lunch. I called Trak and they claimed they knew exactly what they are doing… but seemed confused when I explained what tools were needed.

I know that the Veloce PT stuff is cheap, but it’s for my wife’s first road bike.

I’d love to buy the tools, but right now I just want the crank off, not wait two weeks to get a part from online.

You should still buy the tools anyway even after you’ve been to the LBS, undoubtedly you will be needing them at some point in the future. I never hesitate to buy the tools I need -

so

goddamn

handy

That’s not what I want to do. This is:

Don’t worry I will.
