Unknown tubes, lugs with speed holes, lugged seatstay bridge (or at least it’s trying to look like that), Campag rear dropouts.
Campag headset, Superbe Pro crankset / drivetrain / BB, Sakae Champion bars, Laprade post, Shimano 600AX aero stem (note to self: buy longer allen keys).
No wheels - they probably rusted and were chucked in the recycling
Not having much luck tracking down information - thought I’d offer it to the collective.
The story so far:
Built by a bloke named Geoff Scott in the late 70s / early 80s, apparently in Sydney.
Sold through Clarence Street Cyclery at some point.
They’re about, a guy up here in Brissie has 4/5 under his house. I haven’t been able to learn any more about Geoff, seems like he made pretty nice stuff. Clarence St have lost contact.
Marley is building up a track frame as a street fix, should see it here sometime soon.
I should get around to taking better pics of mine; in the office recently; it was decalled as “P Blom”, and has GEFSCO chainstay stamping. Paul was making frames in Sydney around the same time, now up in Tin Can Bay, Q, I believe but have not been able to make contact.
mate, nice find.
That gefsco on ebay was bought by a bloke in canberra and then he sold the frame to the states for a fair bit more.
Nice frames, I recently picked up some old aussie bike mags from the early 80’s and there is an add for a gefsco in there, will investigate more.
This looks awfully like a Gefsco that I used to to own in the mid 80’s. The one I had was purchased from Ashfield Cycles and was originally silver in colour. Tubing was Reynolds 531 Professional. The drivetrain was Suntour Superbe Pro, brakes were Modolo equipe, Stem was Shimano 600, headset was Super Record, Seat was Sella Italia Turbo (Bernard Hinault). Wheels were Record 28H laced to Mavic CX18 hubs.
What made my frame similar to yours was that it was painted the same colour scheme and had a yellow Oakley sticker exactly where yours is. I damaged my frame slightly by rounding out the seat lug
this is quite the thread dig, but i love that people must find our little corner of the internet while surfing around etc. i love that people are intrigued enough to join and try to find out more too!
not sure if we’ll get an answer though, seems the OP hasn’t logged into FOA since 2008!!
they made mention that they were looking to sell it though, so maybe someone here bought it and can tell us more…
Hey, I think we have a match. Especially seeing as though when I had the frame painted, I found the ‘Michell’ pantographs on the seat stays and the crown, (John Michell owner of Ashfield Cycles). The story is here:
What is not in the blog post is that when I took it to Peter at Star Enamelers, he thought it might have been one of John’s bikes that was stolen years ago, but a phone call ruled that out.
As Heavymetal said, I have built it up for my wife and it is my favorite bike in the garage even though the frame is a full 10cm to small for me an I can’t ride it. And now it just gets better.
I would really like to hear a bit more about how you got it, where you rode it and what happened after that.
And by the way, the SR headset is on my track bike, and the cranks and bottom bracket are still going strong on my daily commuter. Never saw the brakes, stem or other parts.
Cheers for the link dude, I haven’t been on here in forever. I haven’t seen you in far too long either.
Oddly enough I was just thinking about this frame the other day.
I found it in Waterview St Newport, outside a house that always has bike parts at council cleanup time.
I don’t have much more info to offer, other than what’s here, but I am going to put a business card of sorts into the letterbox, with a link to this thread and the stunning job you’ve done with it.
Once I confirm which house it is, it’s been a while.
I’ve currently got a Kerry Hopkins frame of similar size, thrown out just around the corner from Casa de Gefsco, no less.
It’s still wearing Campag Strada cranks (175mm, odd for a ~50cm frame) and had some Nitto bits which have since moved on, so it seems to be half decent. Again no tubing markings, and it’s pink, but I’ll have a closer look tomorrow.
Best info I can find online about Kerry is that he’s still working at ABC Bikes down south in Liverpool, and hasn’t had the time or desire to build any more frames for a few years now.
I’m looking to move it on soon - I don’t have a use for it, so if anyone’s reading this and is interested, please get in touch!
I’ll eventually put some photos of my own steed up too, an '86 Miyata One Ten, with 600mm MTB bars and 35mm CX tyres. The ‘casual lap of Narrabeen Lake via Church Point’ bike. (Carlin, there are some pics up on bookface.)
I won’t ever ride it in traffic, crap knees, I probably shouldn’t be riding fixed at all. But dammit, it’s fun.
Hey guys, thought I’d go ahead and throw a pic in here of my brothers Jeff Scott frame which was apparently used in the commonwealth games at some point? If anyone was interested I’d be happy to get some facts on it.
it is not the original paint, and most of the parts are fairly new too, I think.
Cheers,
-Dougie
EDIT:
Ah mate! Nothing like putting yourself in with the L90 down pittwater road though!
A shop in balmain is where he bought it. no changes made, plans to fix it up and restore it to original finish.
he says your bike looks awesome!!
Info provided by Martin Vinnicombe was that his bike was raced by Alex Fulcher team in the 4000m pursuit in the 80’s
