Halo Fix-G Hub - Help & Experiences

Hey Guys,

First post on here, been trolling around for a while though.
Had a quick search, couldn’t dig anything up.

I’m in the market for a new rear hub for the fixie conversion thingo I have (old 70’s frame) after I managed to break the fixed side threads (It was a shitty hub!).

I’ve been looking around for something to replace it with, without blowing the budget.
I’ve stumbled upon this
Halo Fix-G Hub

Which seems to be perfect, as the lockring will never come loose, no matter how many skids & stoppies I do!

My price range is realistically about $60 on a rear hub and the only criteria is it must be 120mm spacing and have a 32h spoke count. It would be better if I can get it in white, to match the rest of the build, but thats not a big deal if I cant.

Has anybody used that hub?
Can anybody recommend an alternative?

If it helps…
I’m not trick rider, I enjoy riding fixed because of the simplisity of riding.
I’m about to purchase the DC Orange/White SE fixie, to do all the more fun skids etc on, by which this bike will become the cafe/social ride bike.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

I can’t help you with the Halo, but I’d bet money that your stripped threads were nothing to do with the quality of the hub. It’s FAR more likely it was a crap cog and/or badly installed. What cog were you using?

As an alternative, look for Dimension, Novatech and Velocity hubs.

But whichever hub you get, make sure you get a good quality cog & lockring, AND install it properly.

The Halo hub you linked to also requires Gusset cogs, which I don’t think are easily available locally (but are available online).

There is also the charger shaker hub Evans Cycles | Charge Shaker Rear Hub | Online Bike Shop and I think one is for sale here. But I would agree with the above post good cog’s, lockrings, grease and proper fitting will stop hub’s stripping and give you more cog choice.
