handlebar/grip advice

Hey All,

my previous topic on pedal advice for my newly purchased Surly Steamroller went so well I thought I’d pick all your brains for handlebar and grip advice for my new bike as well.

The Surly came with drop bars but I prefer flatbar for short commuting around the city.

My last fixie had a Nitto Kishimen flatbar and Champ grips which were fine but I found the bar to be a little too straight.

Any suggestions on a good not-so-straight flatbar? And where I could get one? I do use a front brake if that affects choice?

Also grips. Can anyone recommend favourites?

Cheers for any advice given!

btw…free to a good home. some 40cm Profile AirWing bars with grip attached.

pickup in Fitzroy.

yes, ive posted this in classifieds as well

Sushis - from Dan at Shifter - and shorten them up by 50/60mm each side

or alternatively shorten them to 50mm each side :sunglasses:

but in all seriousness the ramen bars hes had polished look sweet.

Ceres’ Bikeshed has brand new alloy low risers for $5 each which they just got in from a bike store. Picked up 2 of them on the weekend. They look great and are super cheap. Can even chop them down and do all adjusting there on sight. Open Friday and Saturday from 11ish.

Do you have a photo, or a make & model?

Just grab some old risers of a dumpster/hard rubbish bike and chop them down a bit until you get an idea of what’s a good fit. That way it won’t matter if you stuff it up.
Or, for $5 grab some of those mentioned.

They had a bunch of different types. One I got is a Kalin bar, serial says: MTB-AL-153.
They seem to be good quality.

Have you considered something other than risers/flat?

I have a couple sets of Cinelli Valencias that are super comfy. Also Nitto B258AA are realatively flat, but have a nice sweep and shape that allow a couple hand positions.

For grips, either Oury’s or Big Cheese are good.
