this is gross. this ratatat group slaughtered some big artists. i know it just my opinion, but they fucked it up big. they totally removed the NY from notorious, and replaced it with gross electronic shit. and they turned UGK, slim thug and that classic jeezy into softcore shit. this is like a remix album for 16 year english pimply electro boys.
ehh I like it. Evidently not everyones cup of tea, but there are a whole bunch of these sort of remixes I’ve been liking lately e.g
The grey album by danger mouse (mixes the Beatles with Jay Z)
Stars&Stripes(The White Stripes reimagined) (remixes the white stripes with essentially everyone)
Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers (mixes Wu Tang with the Beatles) pretty sure everyones heard that but if not give it a go
I know 50% of people will probably scream sacrilege but i reckon they’re orright
Yeah because we are all from NYC and call all clim to know what is truly street hip hop.
I hear a heap of people complaining about the electronic sound debasing proper hip hop, but these people fail to see this is a direction many of the biggest artist in hip hop are taking. Like Cal M said, DJ’s and producers like DangerMouse, Kanye, The RZA, Tre D and Fat Jon are making albums incorporating “electronic” sounds into hip hop.
People who get the hate on for this kind of music forget Mr Magic, Funkmaster Flex and even RA the Rugged Man. Artists who pioneered hip hop used electro sounds and disco sounds.
Ok now I got that out of my system.
Here is an album I will never stop listening to.
your twisting shit around, its these remix albums that fuck everything up. That ratatat joint was murdering Young Jeezy, making them sound like cartoon acts. im sure you agree music has a soul, and that album just killed jay z, and UGK, jeezy, stuff like that, and just turned their music into somethin aesthetically pleasing for electro heads to enjoy. its just exploiting the artists, taking the soul out there music. And trust me, i hate those guys that are all talk about knowing real NYC hiphop too, theyre the kind of people who just blindly go out talkin bout how iLLmatic and 36 chambers were the best records ever, just cause it sounds smart to say. just cause i bunch of white editors is XXL say so. they dress real clean and walk round with headphones on talking shit about hiphop is dead. Trust me, i love Nasir, but his best shit was that grimy gods son and it was written. i lived in queensbridge briefly, and the best rappers i heard were grimy brothers knockin of tapes out their trunk. even 50 cent had fucking dope tapes, before he turned all shit. and RZA uses that synthetic sound to compliment the music, to add soul to it. Wutang is all about being avant garde. that ratatat shit was just shit. and Kanye is dead to me. he used to be a lil Dilla, sampling all that good soul and blues. now he’s just using daft punk and other rubbish. but nice to see you showing Big L some love, not many cats know about him. all the good die young huh. and Monch. the desire is still one of my fav records. also sorry for the paragraphing. my enter key doesnt work, thanks for stickin with me though, haha.
