Jim Bundy x Peter Bundy

the perfect ss rig

I’m planning to mostly ride it fixed, but lately I’ve discovered the whole Audax thing, and am enjoying ss for the bigger hills. Also, I can’t remember who I lent my freewheel remover to.

The test ride this morning was a bit of a relief - I’d spent a long time getting the adjustments right, based on my old bike, and it fitted like a glove. Won’t get a chance for a proper excursion til next weekend though. Looking forward to it!

This is a perfect example of how functionality doesn’t have to get in the way of form. Well done you must be stoked!

Really nice Alex.

If you want some guards for it, these crud guards have been excellent on my Bundy SS all year.

Damn!! that is a nice build, love your parts choice.
Currently planning a similar build, but with a road frame. Hoping it will help me move up a grade on the track.

What gear do you run in fixed mode?

Usually around 76", i.e. 48 x 17. That’s been pretty good as long as the hills aren’t too big. There’s no real mountains near Sydney anyway. For Fitz’s Challenge in Canberra I went with 74" singlespeed, which was definitely too high for the steeper parts. 68" would have been better, given it was 200+km with barely any flat road.

The rear triangle on this bike is quite big (the frame was actually built for 27" wheels) so I’m trying to find a ratio that will bring the rear wheel forward as much as possible. This link is really useful for that kind of comparison: http://www.fixed.org.au/forums/t19843/ (Thanks JKLP)

i.e. If I switch from 48x17 to 47x18 (70"), the chainstay length stays at 414mm, which is nice. The longish rear triangle does make the handling a bit less nimble, but also theoretically more stable on the descents, so I’m not too worried about it.

Having ridden with Alex this morning and seen this bike in person I declare this bike all win.

Lovely… I had a Bundy road bike around 90/91 Lovely frames. On yaself mate
