Sounds more like he (or the author of the article) is one of those people who don’t realise that the whole wheel is not a “tyre”.
yeah, obviously, they’re not white and hip enough to know the diff between a wheel, a rim and a tyre, but got it right with the velocity reference.
Spot on with the suburb choice. North Fitzroy village is off the fucking hook, and the same twats that pay $7 for a loaf of bread there laugh at the “pretentious, snobby douches” who live in sth yarra/malvern/insert south of the river suburb here______.

I was told today that an LBS owner said that the latest craze was taking singlespeeds and turning them into tandems (??) and that tandems were making a comeback. Have I been living under a rock and totally missed this one?

Yeah the ‘Melbourne’s whitest suburb’ article is rather amusing, though i do not believe areas such as: North Fitzroy, Readings, Degraves Street etc. are a very good or accurate representation of Melbourne and it’s society and ‘culture’ at all.
As far as i can ascertain from the article: White = Middle to Upper Class trendwhore, so i can only concur with Christian Lander on his (somewhat self reflective perhaps?) witty observations.
That article might have been amusing, or even interesting, if it wasn’t so obvious.
Any one with a mediocrity of learning can make observations of the commonalities of the culture they live in.
Perhaps in his book or blog or whatever kids are doing these days he presents it all in a witty and amusing way, or with some sort of legitimate social commentary, but based on that age article I want be hunting it down to check it out.
