MASH Tour of California Preview.

Skidzzzz n’ Lycra.

Rad.

Just can’t help thinking that a GEARED bike might be more appropriate…
There are a couple of shots where the d00d is spinning his arse off, while going about 25km/h lol

But enjoyable video thanks for the link!

it’s a cool video, i watched it twice yesterday. would be easier with a brake no doubt.
I wonder when/if the Cannonball will turn into a race?

I’ve thought about that too. It would be great as a straight out hard man race, you’d just need to stop the cheating somehow. I reckon it could be done in 3 days, and a bit maybe.

I’d be keen as fark to give it a go.

would be fun. fixed gear/ss, unsupported, riders could carry gps locators that update their position to the internet hourly.

i think you missed the point horatio… they werent looking for appropriateness as much as the adventure.

the rapha continental team attempted it with gears and couldnt make it.

What do you mean couldn’t make it? Are they weak?

If it wasn’t the MASH guys, I would be surprised at other people trying it on fixed, but riding track bikes on the street is what they’re all about, so I guess doing the Tour of California on track bikes is usual for them.

I enjoyed the video, especially the part when the guy came running after them.

someone on this forum has a standing bet with dan shifter that he could make it in 48 hours. if he wins, dan has to eat his own shit.

a bit too much MASH appreesh ITT. i’m a bit over everyone riding those particular dicks…

What is this thing you call the Cannonball?

maybe this is where cadel evans is going wrong. Riding fixed up mont vontoux could be the answer :stuck_out_tongue:

48 hours you say? Only one person could think that’s possible. You’d have to get to from Sydney to Orbost in one day! Even on a geared bike that’d be near impossible, and then to back up and make it to Melbourne the next day, pffft. I’m with Dan on this one (without the shit eating bet part cause I kinda don’t underestimate the dreaded one)

don’t know the route profile comparison, but lands end to john o groats is 1,407km, and was ridden on a conventional bike in 2001 in a time of 44 hours.

Unsupported? I doubt it.

yeah, but opperman did lands end -> groats, in 1931, in 2 days and 9 hours, that would have been unsupported, and fixed gear.

roads wouldn’t have been too flash either.

see meets>other.

CANNONBALL.

Sydney to Melbourne, 6 days. 1200kms. Double fixed.

I laughed, I cried, I cramped, I carried my own gear.

Start your own ‘thing’, forget watching what the rest of the world is doing.

Did not see one aerospoke, what’s going on.

They realised aerospokes were shit for riding.
