Maxxis Detonator vs Hutchinson Excel

Hey guys had a tyre blow out recently due to broken glass…A small holes that cost :frowning: I am looking for some budget tyres…

Maxxis Detonator and Hutchinson Excel they are both $29.

Anyone have experiences with them??

Cheer,
Dub.

Used the Maxxis for about half a year on the daily commute, no problems. But the old adage says “pay peanuts, get monkeys”.

I vote Maxxis.

Hahha my bad…thx for telling me…I am a f#@king noob.

Continental Gatorskins.are da bomb and don’t cost that much.

neither.
only conti gatorskins.
they don’t cost much more, will last 5 times longer, won’t get flats, and they skid well.
we don’t use anything else and i get at least 3000K out of my work tyres.
well worth spending a few dollars more on.
and in the long run they work out to cost about 1/3 the price of detonators when you take into consideration how long they last.
best bet is to buy a new gatorskin, and put it on the front. take the front tyre and put it on the rear, skid away.
when the rear tyre reaches the end of it’s life, buy a new tyre and put it on the front.
repeat.

Thx guys…yer i will shop around today before I go to work

Pretty sure Lupine just convinced me to splash out for a pair of gatorskins.

I second Conti Gatorskins. Rock solid.

However, if price is the first criteria, check this special out:

White tyres!! Anyone know which brand sells them?? I am going to powder coat my bike to full black …but with white tyres.

Dub.

Gatorskins do get flats, but hardly ever.

All white tyres? Tell me if you find some. I’ve got some all-white-but-for-the-center-strip, and they’re Vittoria Rubinos. They’re great if you want to get a flat every 26.327 minutes.

Hhahha damn
I am running on a red tyre at the moment. Looks like a redblack spider hehe my bad.

I want this tyres:

Looks like Rubinos to me.

mmmh interesting
but isnt the rubbino have black stripe in the middle??

I think its a trick of the camera.

Black where the logo is, then the colour, then a black strip. I was told coloured tyres can be ‘slippery’ in the velodrome, so maybe they make the middle bit black to give extra traction.

Oh nice…but vittoria i had experiences with them they puncture like a bi*$tch

another hand up saying they are rubinos… and if you want puncture resistance, go vittoria randonneur… $35 or $40 and will outlast anything else even remotely close to that price. everyone saying gatorskins is saying so either cos they dont want big tyres (randos go down to 28mm) or they have never tried them… seriously, punctures are a bitch and nobody here rides that fast that they need to worry about width of tyre or weight slowing em down. get randos and forget about tyres and glass and anything else for 3 to 12 months.

and another note, heres a vote for the shittest tyres ever made, vittoria rubino tech… with the cottony sidewalls… they looked wicked but tore up and shat themselves in about 10days.

Hhahha I am gonna wear out my red tyres first before I get some whiteish tyres.

that’s a bit of a furphy. Carbon black butyl or nitrile rubber is meant to be longer lasting than coloured rubber, which is meant to be more sticky. But who knows nowadays? It’s all black art chemistry . . .

Most people say that about you Nexus, “because you’re so big, you’re the best ride in the park!!!” :stuck_out_tongue:
