Nope. From memory you left for Germany before the 1st birthday.

Nope. From memory you left for Germany before the 1st birthday.

God des, break it to me hard! I was hoping for some equally fuzzy memories…
‘Oh yeah, yeah I think you were mate… Hmm, I can’t remember… Yeah, I’m pretty sure though’
and then I go
‘Oh great!’ And don’t feel like such a fixed.org.au loser.
Ahem, sorry, back to the normal programming of this thread. Apologies NDF.
Looks like it was also Lat’s regatta which we rode alongside on the last Saturday ride. Interesting.
You were definitely there in spirit. I had a froffy just for you.
And Oscar the dog sent his regards.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Sweet memories of sore heads!!
I’ll be there this year if I don’t have to be out a sunny Carrum for another regatta. Hopefully without a sore head!!
OK the course is 2/3 done. There area is not very large so everyone should be able to get lots of points. Boundaries are roughly Poyal Park, North Melbourne, Docklands, Southbank, Botanical Gardens, East Melbourne, Carlton, Park St.
About 50 control points in total, and there will be no way anyone will be able to get them all in the 2hr time limit. I’ve copied Rick’s genius method for unmanned controls from Meanstreets: Telephone boxes (more info at the briefing).
At the start, each team will receive a map with all the controls printed on it, and a list of ‘questions’. Each control has a compulsory and an optional question. For telephone boxes, the compulsory part is the phone number. The optional part will be something nearby or a cryptic question. If you get the optional part right there is bonus, but you have to get the compulsory part right to get any points at all. There are a few controls that are not telephone boxes… They will be some major feature you should not miss.
There will be some small errors on the map and in the descriptions, so you may have to alter your plan as you go
No need to bring anything special, just a few dollars for drinks and snacks at the BBQ.
This should be a fun morning ride. If you haven’t been on a ride with us before, could you please send me a PM or an email* so I can print up enough maps. Thanks and hope to see you Saturday morning.
Sounds awesome. I think I’ll be way too hungover to make it, and I’d be a drag on a team being a foreigner and all.
Who cares, come along the more the merrier
bonus points if you barf!
ok, i dont want to get a name for myself as the guy who needs to question the time anything starts, but do we meet at fed sq at 7.30 as mentioned on the front page, or 8am for an 8.30am start as mentioned in the thread?
the closer it gets, the more sure i am that i’ll be there, and am 95% sure i wont have a partner
i don’t have a partner, either. be pretty happy if i could team up with someone who knows melbourne a little better than i do as i’m a mlb-n00b. otherwise i’ll just bomb around for fun.
Re start time: If you aim to meet us at 7:30, then you won’t miss the start of the event at 8am
Re partners: If you don’t have someone to ride with yet, don’t stress out, we’ll find you someone.
Aww the Brunswick womens ride is tomorrow as well!
I’m excited
See you all at 7:30.
yeah!
BIG THANKS to ndf for putting in the effort to organise all this.
Experience and strategy won out in the end and for once Tristan came last
Yup.
Big thanks to Nath.
Super fun. Possibly the best organised fixed.org.au event ever.
Des
yeah another great event Nath
remember kids ‘say nope to dope’
Well I can say that the BBQ and coffee after was great What an awesome day to be on the bike!
Thanks to everyone who showed up and rode! So here are the results:
1st Nick & Des 595pts (18 controls + 18 bonus)
2nd Kat & Cress 575pts (23 controls + 14 bonus)
3rd Chris & Damoh 370pts (14 controls + 10 bonus)
4th Super Omar & Super Steve 290pts (15 controls + 9 bonus)
5th Tristan, Horatio & McKenny 230pts (11 controls + 6 bonus)
There were some ‘errors’ in the counting of Kat and Cress’ points, which I’ve now corrected. Seems it was not such a convincing win after all. Next time I’ll do all the counting
If anyone would like a copy of the course map & questions, you can grab it here: [front ] [rear]
And say you have a lazy two hours and would like to have a go - just print them out, start at Fed Square and see how many points you can get. I can email you an answer sheet if you are keen. That’s all for me until March - hopefully we can do a rerun of the drags then.
ps - I’ll cut up your map sheets and laminate them into cards for next week’s ride.
