I once sent a package from berlin by sea mail. Took about 2 months. I made it back from holidays before it arrived.
I’ve never had anything shipped by USPS priority.
I’ve had quite a bit of stuff shipped via USPS and never had a problem. Depending on the size and priority it should be here within two weeks. The best time was from some guy in Canada, 6 days!
i found them for sale here http://www.bicyclebuys.com/item/1715375

so that could be another cheaper option…if ebay fails me.
l got one from the us for about $50. check the link.
cheapest you shall get me thinks
I love how Bells Bike Shop (the Ebay store) says that the Mini-U Lock is “…the lock that people carry when they want to lock up their fixed gear or track bike. It’s also good on road bike’s as well.” As if a lock is designed for a specific type of bike. Gold.
Pretty much every cycling related accessory on ebay is suffixed with the words “track bike fixed gear”.
Same place i got mine, how long roughly did it take for yours to get here?it says 6-10 days so fingers crossed it’s more like 4-5 hahaha
make your own lock, way better and cheaper. i did.
parts:
8mm stainless boat cable from bunnings (cut so assembled lock length goes nicely around waist)
2 x stainless U-bolt style cable clamps- to suit 8mm(with the two nuts you do up)
1 stainless masterlock 10mm shank (w/ 3 keys)
1 road tube
4 zipties
cut cable to length
cover tube w/ cable
make end loops and clamp
cover clamps w/ spare tube and zip ties
done
I made my own with the heaviest gauge chain they had at bunnings and a giant padlock, then I covered it all with a mtb inner tube
It’s heavy as hell but I just leave it chained to the rack near work. I carry a tiny little cable lock with me in case i need to run into the shops on the way home.
If you’re using cable clamps that do up with a nut, how do you prevent someone from undoing them with a wrench?
I’ve had a similar one (as above) for almost 20 yrs and never lost a bike. (OK, so maybe it has to do with owning crap bikes, but hey!) Just lock through the back wheel and frame. If you want to secure your front wheel too, just use one of those loop end cables.
been tossing up getting one for a while but they look far to small to actually lock to anything.
Anyone use one in Melbourne. Is it easy enough to find small enough stuff to lock to?
Yeah man standard poles (the ones with signs) and the bike things (you know the “D” shaped metal bars in the ground) are all fine with the Kryptonite mini…won’t be getting it around a tree or telegraph post though!!
The best thing is is just tucks in your back pocket!!
Yeah right-on, got one myself not long ago, and had no problem, in Melbourne on my girls MTB or in Sydney on my Langster. Most street signs (no parking/stopping/standing) all run 3inch pipe (70mm), and the mini goes round something like 83mm.
Safe and small!
bought one of ebay for just under $50 and am awaiting its arrival in the mail.
They’ll work on a standard Bike parking up side down U shaped pole thingy that are all around Melbourne. Thats what I lock my bike to %99 of the time. Other wise they’ll do a street sign post and Melbourne only has about a million of those (make sure its cemented in)
So I can’t foresee any difficulties.
That’s the beauty of a big, long chain… you can even lock it to a wooden lamp post. You try finding an empty pole or bike rack in somewhere like Brunswick St nowadays !
The only time I’ve found the lack of bicycle parking to be a problem is when some gormless nonce chained their bike to mine.
Same here… having Breakie on Brunswick street 10am sunday morn, some cvnt locked their ‘town bike’ to mine. I left a polite note, but took them till 9pm to call. Only consolation was said cvnt was an incredibly cute chick.
has anyone tried the LS versions of the Mini U locks? Just not sure if i trust the regulars to fit the pole and frame without wedging them tight up against each other?
or does this then kind of defeat the point of a “mini” lock?
No way, same here. I was ashamed with how little I insulted her for her little indiscretion.
I was mere moments away from just unlocking my bike and carrying them both home with me on the train and grinding her Ulock of my frame later. I wouldn’t have felt the least bit guilty in taking her bike.
Wait, she didn’t lock it to the rack, inadvertantly trapping your bike in the process? Just locked her bike directly to yours? Jayzus
