I’ve recently got myself a flash new mountain bike and gotten all keen about riding off road again.
Anyone interested in doing a day on the trails out at the You Yangs? Not at the eastern end which is where the DH trails are but at the Western Plantation which all flat, fast flowing single track and despite the lack of hills is a heap of fun.
We could train out to Little River and ride to the trails, then back home on the train. Although this option is not gonna be kind to off road tyres as there is probably 15 k’s each way of on road riding to do.
Or for the more convenient, but less environmentally friendly, option we could just drive and meet there.
In speaking with a few of the others on the forum I had come up with the following proposal idea, based upon the assumption that most of us generally needed/wanted to do more with our weekends than just riding, and assuming that we wanted to ride the Sat morning fixed ride:
The result of that was that it left us Saturday afternoon and Sunday to use. Assuming that Sunday was to be left for girlfriends/boyfriends/gardening etc… it became apparent that Saturday arvo was the time to use - Ride the fixed ride, finish up at about coffee time, head home, grab the MTB’s and head bush.
So, my proposal is that we nominate a Saturday afternoon every fortnight, as a possible MTB ride. I acknowledge that this is a fixed gear forum, so the idea was to organise the fortnightly rides via an email circular.
I thought that a fortnightly ride frequency would be ideal as it means that if you miss a ride, you don’t have to wait a month until the next one. The idea is that not everyone will go on every ride, but that there will be a number of people for whom a particular fortnight is convenient and a ride will happen.
Cressida and I felt that rides along the Yarra would be easier to undertake as they require less organisation and also transport time to get to the trailhead. We’ve also been out the Lysterfield on a Sat arvo after the fixed ride before, so we know that heading out there is possible and makes for a good afternoons riding. You Yangs would be good and I’m sure there are other locations that are easily accessible. I have raced in a few places that are not to far to get to and well worth riding.
How about all interested parties email me or PM me your emails and I can start a circulation list?
OK, I have a few names on the list so far, so PM me if you’re also interested.
(I was thinking it was nigh time I took a ride up the Yarra and was tempted to do it this Saturday arvo, so perhaps that will be the first ride circular to do the rounds.)
