Ola! So my felt has finally cracked and i am looking at the sweet sweet Pivot Mach 5.7
However, the rear drop outs (and most new forks) are 12mm thru axle’s. However, I want to be able to use my current XTR hubs/rim set as they are still really nice and more importantly I cannot afford to fork out for new hubs as well as everything else. So the question is…
… can you convert a hub from QR to thru axle? Or have some sort of adapter in the thru axle dropout to accommodate for the tiny skewers?
Is it still 135 wide? 135x12mm is pretty rare.
You may be able to change the axle, but the only through axle shimano hub I know if is saint, and that is 150mm and will also be better than xtr for that kind of bike anyway.
If it is 135mm and you just want to swap the hub, I’ve got a sweet suzue carbon 135x12mm through axle hub for sale
yeah, im slowly coming to the realization that it will need to be rebuilt… which is frustrating as there is nothing to suggest the real actual benefit of a 12 axle in the rear apart from spending more money
As long as it is the right amount of holes, it doesnt matter how wide/big the new hub is right?
If you’ve got a 142x12mm bolt up rear end in the frame, then the difference between it and a 135mmx9/10mm QR end is it is much stiffer. This is why you’ll see them in most dually rears and more and more hardtails.
