On stiffness. How much is too much.

sometimes lil mate downstairs isn’t as straight edged as me.

holy shit.

Is he Bent sometimes?

kicking myself i didn’t think of this.

i’ve said too much.

you have banned people for less.

Brendan is going wild of late,

Hokum.

Science says otherwise:

Off-Axis Fatigue Behavior of Unidirectional Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Composites at Room and High Temperatures

is this what happened to CraigC?

^ Hey I’m not a scientist/engineer, I’m merely voicing a common understanding (perhaps misunderstanding if I can be bothered reading the large amount of references you link to.

Laymans understanding has always been:
Steel- doesn’t fatigue
Aluminium- fatigues within 5 years if you race it.
Titanium- doesn’t fatigue either (?) but is expensive and overly springy
Carbon- the ultimate material that doesn’t fatigue. Just don’t crash it.

Not trying to be a smart arse, just interested.

Sounds like your laymans understanding has been based on marketing rhetoric H.

Steel Fatigues.
Aluminum Fatigues.
Carbon Fatigues.
And would you believe Titanium fatigues too.

I have known people who ride (a lot) who have busted or warn out frames of all the aforementioned materials. Including a multisporter that had gone through three Burls Ti frames under the one ‘lifetime’ warranty.

Now bamboo?.. how about bamboo?

Well that is the definition of ‘laymans’ after all…

Come on, you know what I’m saying has an element of truth to it!

So what you’re actually saying is this:

Steel fatigues.
Aluminium fatigues quicker. (Charlie Cunningham dissagrees)
No ones really sure how much carbon fatigues becuase the tend to bust it in crashes or in overtightening the Thule roofrack or leaving it out in the sun.
And no one rides Ti anymore so that really is a black hole.

Am I right?

Ti for lyfe

I thought the whole point of steel was it’s inherent springy-ness??

Ti’s for dentists mckenny, sorry*

*Really jealous of your lynskey

Just outa curiosity , from those who have ridden both. Is ti really a big difference to ride from high end steel, or is it just an overpriced marketing cool thing? Looks great and stuff, but is it really a grail worthy?

You are wrong. I ride Ti and I am a thought leader. I predict a groundswell of Ti, sometime soon…

Nope. Once Des gets a Ti bike it’s on. We still have Bromptons before that happens.

Yeah, but even that goes with time… just ask Brendan.
