Question: Front rack or rear rack with panniers?

Agreed Adz. The only time I even noticed it is if I overloaded it (extra shoes, a six-pack) then tried to smash up a hill out of the saddle.

That wouldn’t be as true of the SQR slim as of the more traditional Carradice saddle bags. I’ll be patient and give it a crack. In the meantime I must pull my finger out and collect my fenders from the kindly WCP.

This Gellie was about 57mm of trail from memory, so not super low. Lowriders on my Nishiki is the most stable touring load I’ve ever found.

Also, I kind of think that part of the problem with the Camper is how wobbly it is when attached. I kind of think a more solid bag/mount would wobble less. As I said though, the effect on handling snot too bad, but it’s certainly noticeable with a commuting load atmo.

At 24l the Camper seems huge, and that might explain some of the shit handling. I use a Swift Ind Zeitgeist which is essentially a modernized version of a Camper, with half the capacity. I use it with a Bagman rack and I only find it wobbly with a heavy load or when climbing out of the saddle.

I’m keen to try the SQR thingo as I find the bagman flimsy.

I used one of those support racks that hang off the saddle for mine. Pretty much stopped the swaying by having a base under the bag.

Anybody care to share a pic of their setup?

I’m running a carradice super C, which at 23 litres, is pretty big. I don’t have enough space between my saddle and rear wheel for it to just hang without dragging on my wheel, so I use a mini front rack mounted onto the rear canti mounts as a support. Works great and the rack is cheap and strong. Bonus is that because it’s a small rack, you can’t really see it under the bag which looks good IMO. I’ll post pics of my actual setup when I get home

Thanks Stephen! Pics would be much appreciated.

Can run double rear rack seatstay mounts instead of the single that you would normally use for the front. Feels stronger and more secure

Shouldn’t sit so high above the wheel on your pomp coz 700c (i’m running 26 inch)

Hi again,

Thanks so much for taking those pics! The braze ons on my seat stay are a little different, but I should be able to do the equivalent of what you did.

All I need to do is figure out how much space all of this would give me for a bag and then find something suitable. Some research to do in the coming days
