I’ve reached the point where my current commuting combo of Topeak Beam Rack and Drybag no longer meet my needs. The drybag is losing the tightness in its retention clip and the bag is sliding off the back of the rack while I’m riding along. Happened three times in two days this week, including smashing my Cygolite Hotshot 2 the first time.
The Voodoo Dambala frame has screw in mounting points for cantis and a screw in hole for a rack/fender down at the dropout (11 o’clock position above top bolt in sliding dropout in the pic). There’s none of the usual rack mounts up on the seat stays.
Failing in my googlefu to find a rear rack that will mount onto those canti screw in holes.
Does anyone have a suggestion on a rack to suit my current situation before I resort to a Surly seat clamp with rack mounts?
I’ve got a Voodoo Wanga with the same setup. I looked into how I could fit a Tubus Logo onto the same mounts, similar to this:
The problem is that the position of those canti bolts aren’t sufficiently horizontally apart from the axle ones, so the rack wouldn’t be as strong in fore/aft movement. It’d also involve fabricating a bracket to match the bolts to the rack.
So I did what it looks like you might do, and bought a Surly seat post clamp. It’s heaps good
You could also just get some plastic coated steel saddle clips and attach them to any point on the stays. Like these guys:
