resolutions.

  1. Buy less shit.
  2. Get rid of some of the shit I already have.
  3. Use the shit I don’t get rid of more.
  • all of these are conducive to an end resolution of have more savings by the end of the year and tying less satisfaction to possessions.
  1. Be nicer, and not just in one of those bullshit motivational ‘be kind’ motivational self gratifying/promotional instagram post kind of ways.
  2. Figure out life.
-My supposed final semester of uni ended with a publication, two HDs a high D in final year engineering and fail in a shitty second year maths subject. by the looks of things i’ll be going back for one unit next year and thats shittastic and a half, i also really need to get out of the bike game, it’s killing me slowly, but i reckon that will have to wait.
  3. Do something to do with science/eng/edu communication that is useful, not just liking smarmy facebook posts.
  • agri-tech and health-sci-tech are my thing, particularly shifting views in the first world so that progress isn’t stifled in the rest. fuck you greenpeace.
  1. knuckles to the floor. still haven’t fixed my back from two years ago now.
  2. cook more so i stop wasting money on food.
  3. go back to cambodia, see my friends, have fun.

Italian passport is still not a thing. It’s ridiculous.

The initial plan for 2016 was a fail, not my fault though, things changed and it worked out for the better. Moved back in with my folks for 5 months which was awesome & really enjoyable. Cooked heaps for my family & spent time with them all before I moved out again. First time in 8 years that I loved at home.

I rode bikes lots during this time. Kicked my ass, trained hard & flew to Japan to compete in the Japanese Odyssey endurance bike race. Completed 2500km, 11 mountain top checkpoints & rolled in 3rd. Met some new freinds whom I’m still in contact with & will ride/race with later in 2017.

Finally pulled the trigger this year on my own production frames, have happily been prototyping for 6 months and will look to begin production in the new year. One of the bigger changes was also coming out of a near 7 year relationship. Pretty short stint living the bachelor life before meeting my new partner, whom without a doubt is one of the best thing that happened to me in recent time. Just before I went to Japan we started making arrangements to move to Canberra. I finally left Brisbane at the start of November & have begun a frame building apprenticeship with Kumo.

So overall 2/3 for last year resolutions & I’m pretty stoked on how my year turned out. All the hard work and savings from the previous year were useful as I didn’t work much at all in 2016 & feel fresh and ready to get stuck in over 2017.

Resolutions for 2017.

  1. Build a bike frame & fork
  2. Complete Northcape 4000 or Transcontinental Race
  3. Bring my production frames to life. Website, stock & get people riding them.
  4. Make more long-term goals and stick to them
  5. Explore more, inside Canberra and also venture out into the bush.

I don’t think I’ve ever had New Years resolutions, not any that I’ve written down so here goes in no particular order. Hopefully I can achieve at least half…

  1. Ride my bike(s) more.
  2. Build a gravel biek, ride on some dirt and refine my mechanical skillz in the process (or lack thereof).
  3. Get a passport and go overseas.
  4. Work on my side hustle in hopes of eventually being self employed.
  5. Be a better partner. (kinder, more considerate, etc).
  6. Put money away for a specific purpose (house?, scary), other than just because.

Goals:
Ride 10,000km this year
Get new workshop site prepped
Grow more food
Get firearms liscence
Remove a great deal of stress from my life
Get a winch for the Defender and push further info the wilderness at my back door

In the spirit of this thread, and having never written down any goal/resolution:

Get back to how fit I was in 2014 before I moved. I started running whilst I was home for xmas and without a bike and realised how quick and easy it is to throw on some shoes and head out the door without faffing around for 25 minutes getting bike shit set up. I’m aiming to keep it up so I don’t have to keep going through that initial suffering after not doing it for a while.

Be a supportive husband. I’d like to think I do a fairly decent job but I still often catch myself halfway through doing/or saying something I’ll regret or should have thought about more. This probably applies to most rash decisions I make regarding those around me but Riley cops the brunt of this.

Find a way to be happier in my current job, or find a different one before it ends up turning me into the grumpy prick I was when I lived in Canberra.

Ride different stuff, more often. I guess the recent installation of monster tyres onto the cx bike as well as a pending delivery of something gnarly will help this. As an extension of this…try new things. More hiking, maybe rock climbing, knitting.

i’ve never bought into new years resolutions, as they’ve always been good ideas but I’ve never followed through. Usually by March/April i realise I’m not on track and then forget about the whole thing. So this year, i decided to set anti-resolutions…even if i dont change anything, i will have acheived the goals.

so for 2017 my goals are:

  • Smoke more
  • Don’t form a band, and dont perform live
  • Cycle Less
  • Spend less time with my family

…Low expectation are the secret to happiness and fulfillment

Which classes? Standard A,B or interested in D/H as well?
