You need to THINK about what I’ve written. Yeh, there’s some shit stirring but look at the bigger picture. When you try to legitimise a once underground illegal event you DO need to dot the I’s and cross the T’s and not just say it. You really open yourself and your supporters right up to this sort of outcome. These things were underground for a reason.
As I’ve said previously: You kids are too LATE, it’s FINISHED (or it will be when the pack of cards falls when somebody seeks damages, dont be under it).

i remember when 101 people rocked up to escape from the suburbs. on the way back in to town i was thinking about what we’d done: sent 101 people, most of whom had only ever ridden their bikes in the inner city, some of them hovering around 14 years of age, some of them without helmets, into some of the nastiest roads and fastest descents in greater melbourne. then it struck me: if one of those kids bins it bad, and ends up paralyzed or worse, i was going to get sued. and, after that, there would be no more alleycats - the personal liability is simply too great, and besides, cops would be all over it. we got lucky that day, but it was enough to convince me to get the hell out.
when i hear about posters up in shopping malls, i not only fear for the livelihood of the organizers, but also for the longevity of alleycat racing in this town. i daresay there are a few folk on this forum who feel the same way, and are expressing their concern. if this concern comes off as “hating” perhaps you need to read a little closer.
talk of having the Is dotted and Ts crossed is utter bullshit. if you ask people to sign a waiver you are making an admission of risk, a risk you have done nothing to mitigate. given that those waivers don’t mean shit in a courtroom (i’m in education, trust me on this one…), having waivers actually increases your chance of being sued.
i hope like hell this race goes off without a hitch. i hope no one gets hurt and no one gets sued. but the more people out there racing with little to no experience, the more organizers send kids out to play in the traffic, the more it becomes a case of “when” rather than “if”.
True True I do understand that. In fact Escape from the suburbs was the first alleycat I attended and thought it was great. So does this mean that no more alleycats will be organised? I have never thought about the planning that is required to organise one espeially the legalities and all that. I thought it was always up to the ridesr to enter at their own risk, and that they are fully aware of that. Anyway lets see how this all turns out

fuck when i saw pip had commented i knew it would be good.
it’s not the riders i’m worried about. it’s their mums. especially given most of this new crop of fixie kids seem to all hark from fancy private schools (i get to see their email addresses). imagine if one of their dear darling future liberal voters gets seriously fucked up as part of some event you’re organizing. those mums (or dads, let’s be fair) aren’t going to rest until they have someone’s head on a platter. a good lawyer would argue that by organizing an event you take on the duty of care for those kids, so it’s going to be your head. and those mums have the money for the good lawyers.
that’s it for me. i’ve voiced by concern, and don’t have anything more to say about it. like i said above, i really hope that this event goes off without a hitch.
