rusty chrome metropolis seatbelt buckle

my chrome metropolis has been flogged hard from bangkok to hanoi and apart from stinking like something that stinks bad*,
the seatbelt buckle (both male and female ends) have started to rust. it isn’t too bad, but it is beginning to make cliping in and out difficult.

here are some really shit photos, because i cbf using the slr and my nikon P&S is well and truly ferked.

anyone had this before?
basically, how should i get rid of it and what should i use to lube it up again so it doesn’t go all shit.

I love this bag, it’s held at least 10kg on my back (including a laptop, tripod and camera lenses), 300okm across asia without any discomfort at all, been dropped, dragged, rained on, covered in mud and apart from some pesky rust it still looks like new, so yeah, i wanna fix that FeO2.
i have two other chrome bags (niko and a citizen) and they have the chrome finished buckles which are still as new.

*(I’m holding off on washing it, because current temperatures mean it won’t dry, likely making it worse. i also dont have a bath or sink nearly big enough.)

That’s some poor chrome plating. Alfoil and coke oughtta get you cleaned up and home. Squirt of chain lube in the buckle to smooth the action.

Photos to Chrome, even though it’s coastal exposure, it shouldn’t die that fast.

Have Kumo forge a Ti one in the Fire of Mordor.

FKN hah!

In all seriousness it will be okay. I’d just leave it as is as it adds character…! Kind of like patina on a canvas bag… And it tells a story…

i’m worried about the rust in the buckle though, the more i look at it the worse it looks (probs still rusting…), and it certainly doesn’t clip or unclip like she used to.

on another note i need to scrounge some money for a bag from you dave.

Get a bag from Dave

But in the mean time rub it back with a scotchbrite or alfoil and coke.
Then spray with some inox or similar from Vietnamese bunnings equivalent

I am with Rangadog on this. It is a bit of surface rust - looks legit courier like.

"Asher,

Thanks for the photos. The warranty is approved. Unfortunately I don’t have anyone in Australia to fix your bag. i can issue you a gift card code for the cost of the bag …

10 points to chrome for customer service!
Filled out the online warranty form, pretty much with what I had said here, even stated that I didn’t expect a replacement. Sent three photos (better ones) and this was the response.

^ thats pretty awesome. Thumbs up to em
