Single speed - not quite fixed...

Hey Brisbane bike type people

Sorry for the short notice but I thought I might stop lurking and post this up

Maybe you guys should mash your way down there, check it out and remember some of your first bikes…some of you could even take on the freestyle guys at flatland

There’s a rumour there will be a wheelie contest!

Won’t be in town, but happy to lend out to a good guy for a good cause - 20", cromo, usa, yellow tuffs.

Sweet action. Mite make my way over to this for a look!

Gypsy

Pop on in - you might be surprised to see some old school BMX bikes rocking Campy parts…

Gypo, I’d trust you with my ride, but you have to collect by Tuesday night, and you are sworn to the cone of secrecy when you look under my house.

Make sure someone brings it along

Survivor or Restored - all types are welcome

I’ve always wondered what lays under your house Paul. I’ll come pick it up if you want

I know I’ve been under his house but can’t remember seeing any bikes.

I’m just surprised there’s enough vintage BMXs in Brissy (or any Aussie city for that matter) to have a show all of their own. How old does a BMX have to be in order to be called vintage? For cars, it’s pre-1930!

As far as BMX goes

“Vintage” is generally considered pre 1979

“Old School” is up to around '85 when race bikes were becoming less popular and freestyle bikes were taking over

'85 on can be split into race and freestyle and later on Vert when guys like Hoffman got involved

Hakucho - you might be pleasantly surprised if you turn up…there are collectors and restorers in Australia who have some of the most respected bikes in the world. Don’t forget how big BMX was in Aus in the early 80’s, even the big US Pro teams toured here (and raced at the old Windsor track)

There are bikes coming from Perth Adelaide and Melbourne for this event.

There is a shop in Brisbane (Oxley Cycles) run by an old school nut - there is some great bmx and old euro road gear in there - Gypo, you would mess your undies up if you walked in.

I like Gabriel’s thinking, but he hasn’t seen the back room yet with the good stuff

Don (at Oxley) is one of the last examples of the LBS (local bike shop) in Brisbane, guys who love bikes and a chat.

He has around six Old School BMX Bikes in the shop and a heap of the old tools that you might not find at any of the “lycra” shops if you are in a bind to get something unstuck (freewheels etc)

He still sponsors BMX racing and has done for a lot of years

The owner of Rigdeway Cycles Simon loves a chat but most of the time you cant get a word in :stuck_out_tongue:

Also there are rumors that the previous owner of Able Cycles at lawnton Keith has a large collection of vintage bmx bikes still in boxes

Finishing exams tomorow. Mite be a nice lil day out sometime next week

So did anyone make it along to have a look ?

155 complete bikes, not counting framesets… some rare bikes turned up from around Australia…

If anyone wants to see photo’s I’ll post them up

Bring on the bike pron.

any questions on the bikes don’t be afraid to ask

These are the two I spent a while building, revealed at the show

September 1980 Moosegoose (20" wheels with a 8" steerer tube - designed for taller riders to fit the 20" class)

January 1980 Team Mongoose (Bobby Encinas, Shimano sponsored team rider replica)
