so would a bent chainring do this?

here’s a link if that pic doesn’t work

stop doing sprocket grind you hipster scummm haha.

I found a link like this the other day in my old bits box. Pulled it off my BMX when I replaced with a shiny one, never new it was broken till I pulled it out to use on a chain whip. Wonder how long I rode with it like that for? :?

Hey LAM did you just re join the chain or did you use a joiner?? Most times it’s from not using a joiner and the stress on the chain makes them explode from where you joined the chain. Most of my roadies ave done it as i am a lazy cvnt and never use the joiner and after about 4 months, BAM and chain is gone!!

well, it was the master link, i was coming down a hill just after pulling off from the wednesday ride, and started resisting with my legs to slow down,
heard a graunch noise and decided to pull over and check it out,
i have two master links on this 1/8 chain because my dropouts are so short i can’t get enough travel to cover the two sizes of fixed cogs i run.
anyway, one of the pins in the master link had sheared off.
i think my chain ring is maybe a mm out of round, i only noticed yesterday so i wasn’t fussed yet,
but i guess the combination of loose chain tension and out of round chain ring might have done something bad when i started resisting the direction of travel.

Is your chainline straight after replacing your BB. Sometimes this can put too much stress on one side of the chain and cause it to do that. I saw this happen at training one morning and a guy broke about 3 or four in a row but at different times not all at once.
