Oh! and i also saw Trev hammering on Adelaide ave last night, I guess around 6pm? overtaking a raodie, on the inside, at warp speed. i cut him off to exit at the Saudi embassy. I was v impressed with your pace, T-man.

If it wasnt Trev… there’s another dude on a black bike with nice MT bars and a turn of speed.

Hahaha. Trev, leave the poor roadies alone!

haha yeah that was me man, coming home from work in tuggeranong. that roadie was spinning like mental to get up that little rise, not getting anywhere for the effort - that probably just made it look like i was going quick :stuck_out_tongue:

Very strange dude with stock Surly Steamroller in front of Magnetmart Belconnen.

Firstly he had girls hair and a beard, looked a bit like Wes Carr.
Anyways instead of getting on the bike normally he lifts his leg over the top tube (YES he grabbed his angle with his hand and LIFTED his leg over) :?
Then he goes to start riding but can’t quite adjust to the moving crank arm, stutters a bit and eventually gets going.

He cruises along the footpath before crossing the road diagonally very slowly almost getting nailed by a bus, then he plows over the gutter onto the nature strip towards the mall almost binning it again, then he cuts off some lebo in an excel almost getting nailed again. He then rides through the busy WALKWAY to the mall, a place you shouldn’t be riding through at all. All this at around 3kph, pissing off heaps of pedestrians, almost getting wrecked by cars busses and his own clumsiness…yes its my first Canberra hipster fixie douchebag sighting :sunglasses:

Should have asked him to do a skid (it’s the law) or pop a wheelie, and waited for the hilarity to ensue.

The thought did actually cross my mind…but it seems asking to ‘do a skid’ is even more of a popular trend than riding fixies themselves :-o
I was on the verge of yelling something, but my brain could produce nothing worthwhile at the time, alas.

i can’t imagine how this technique even works…so he reached down and pulled the leg up then over? i’m at a loss as to how this happened! haha.

i want to see this guy! sounds like hoot

he may have an artificial leg??

Could’ve been his first time flipping from a freewheel.

Beware - someday he may be cool like us.

Looked like the bike was brand new, still had reflectors and all.

No sympathy from me when you have no helmet, a girls haircut and you are riding in one of the busiest streets in town in a dangerous manner endangering yourself and pedestrians  There are plenty of quiet places to cruise around and get used to fixed gear, that is not one of them.

Also no artificial leg haha, perhaps he was also rolling up his pants leg while doing the strange lifting motion? Would make a lot more sense if so.

saw a dude last night on a surly steam roller - said g’day and what not, but only because i wanted to see if it was the same dude Ross saw - i don’t think it was.

anyway; dude i spoke to going through woden last night around 5pm, if you’re on here, hello, my name’s trev.

Fixies seen around Dickson:

Red Italian roadie conversion, aerohead wheels
Charge freestyler, maroon frame, green wheels, ridden by tiny tiny dude. Possibly young adolescent
Raw steel frame, 10 speed conversion, red BMX cranks.
Green fixie (already mentioned in thread) with black fork and bb7 brake.
Kona paddywagon painted black, may be SS, not sure.

So where the hell have you been Joel?

You think you can disappear for a year and a half and then just swan back in? You think this is some kind of hostel?

Welcome back

Just spotted Surly leg-lifter guy mounting up in civic interchange across from my shop. Strange…

what was your take on the actoin toodles? any insight into why / how it’s done?

I know it took a short while for me to get the hang of the fixed take-off but his technique was hella weird.
Yeah, like Ross says, he grabs the tube and lifts his leg over forwards and then takes of all rickety, it looks bizarre.
Just seems like he’s not confident yet pushing off and lifting his leg round the back to meet the opposite pedal as it comes round.
Practice makes perfect though, like I said, it took me a bit too

is this him?

Saw a guy ride past Fyshwick markets today.
White fixed/ss, deep gold rims and bullhorns.

Mighty nice bike.

Snowflake,

heard there were a bunch of young things riding around Canberra without brakes, thought this would be the place to find footage of such.
