Stem & Bars - poor fit

Im having a few teething problems with my first build and need some help!

Ive got a 26mm Cinelli stem and 25.4mm riser bars, ive tried to pack bars out with rubber and thin pieces of aluminium, however they are still twisting as soon as I put pressure on them. Can anyone just a better was to make this a tight fit? Or does anyone own 26mm bars that they might be willing to sell to me?

Also, my chain tensions loosens after a few skids. Im running a SRAM 8sp chain and Ive done the axle up as tight as possible, but Im still getting movement. Any hints to help it maintain its tension?

Cheers,

Alex

For the bars and stem, just go down down to your LBS and get yourself a shim, they’ll no doubt have one

I had the same problem, I have a 26 or maybe 26.4 stem and my 25.4 nitto drops. I shimmed it with a rockstar can but that slipped, so I threw in a few more layers and now I can jump on it without moving, just make sure your stem is tight, but don’t bend the stem cause you don’t have enough coke can in there.
Kookie sells a 25.6 to 26mm stainless shim if your LBS is scared of being sued like mine was, but I reckon aluminium would make a better shim

Ive cut up a coke can and made a few layers with that, but its still slipping under load.

Ill head down to my LBS and hunt out a shim.

Thanks for the help. Fingers crossed

No luck at any of my local bike shops, tried 6 shops in fact.

Has anyone got a shim lying around that may help solve my probelm?

try assembling it with some anti sieze compound. It’s used to put together aluminium engines with disimilar metals, any car parts store will have some- also great on bottom bracket cups- worth a try anyway.

Nitto make a perfect shim. Anything else and the more layers you add the more it slips.

Find some 26.0 risers? :-o
