stripping velocity deep v

has anyone tried paint stripper on velocity deep v rims?

are they painted or powder coated?

Anodized I believe. I’ve stripped some before. All need is some oven cleaner, and a scourer. Spray the oven cleaner in an area, leave it for a few minutes, scour away. I stripped mine quick as hell like that. Then you can clean up the raq rim with finer sandpaper or summin’ and some polish.

depends on the colour, i know the black and purple ones are powdercoated

oven cleaner? must be some heavy duty electro-charged solvent.

Im thinking about stripping a set and leaving it silver. im guessing its bare metal underneath the ano…

any options to prevent rust while still having silver finish?

a clearcoat? matte, satin, gloss. pick your posion and stay rust free.
although they are aluminium, suppose it just depends on the grade as to whether they will tarnish/weather.

They’re aluminium, it won’t rust. Mine have been fine for ages.

Use Easy-Off Bam Oven Cleaner, it’s in an orange aerosol can. Just wear gloves and you’ll be fine.

if they are powder coated, guessing you’ll need a heavy duty paint stripper. its nasty shit, but will take off the coat.

You can order mil finish rims from velocity. This is a rim in it’s raw state, you can then polish it from there. Black, silver, electric blue, red etc are anodized, white, celeste etc. are painted. If you do need to strip the rim get some caustic soda and a big plastic tub that you can submerge a part of the rim in to soak. If you mix the caustic right and soak for long enough you won’t have to scrub it… then you have to polish it… this process takes a fair bit of time, and it helps if you have a polishing wheel.

Or if you don’t want to do that, just come and see us, because this is what we do… currently building B43 and deep V in a high polish laced to Phil hubs

I did a little tutorial here if that helps.

wow awesome results from the tutorial. It’s even inspired me to polish my old cinelli stem, but mine has a plastic logo stuck on the front with the logo printed on. I’m guessing the Sodium Hydroxide will decolourise the plastic and clear the logo?!

If it just stuck on, cant you take it off before you polish it?

i stripped my b43’s last week.
paint stripper the gel stuff and some steel wool worked a treat polished it up and looks ace! good luck

I’ve used steel wool before on a frame scratch the hell out of the steel. luckily i was painting over it, primer covered most of it.
