Canberra’s cool. I could move there too but my mum’s in Sydney. I’d rather be 1 1/2 hours drive from her than 2 1/2 hours drive.
Also, Canberra ain’t cheap no more & the beach isn’t exactly close by. Forgive me but the allure of the ocean is strong.
Yeah, family is what keeps me in Sydney.
And Canberra is still a hell of a lot cheaper than Sydney, but it sure aint central coast cheap.
I’ve considered Newcastle. Lived there for uni. Have family there too. Comes down to work though - would mean pretty drastic career changes for my wife and I.
Still, I know a couple who have just thrown in their Sydney jobs to move there and work part time. Property is def cheaper there. Weirdly coffee and beer are the same though, if not more that here?
Spirito has a good point about the upper Central Coast too. Nice roads and wilderness around there.
Shame about the people up there though.

Newcastle seemed ok, from what little I saw (hotel, darby st, cardiff office, airport.) would have loved to have half a day to grab a coffee and go for a swim and see the city in the daylight though.
The best part of it was An evening with Spirito though.
But I’m still happy with my Melbourne to Hobart evac.
