Hopefully whoever stole my bike gets caught track standing on it
I’m hoping it was for a poorly executed track stand which attracts the highest penalty.
Options were dangerous riding, failure to stop at a red light, not stopping at a children’s/pedestrian crossing, all of which attract the $425 fine.

Would like to see how the trackstanding fine goes when challenged by a lawyer in court (obvs one who has some brains and perhaps an understanding of what trackstands are).
The moron turning across the bike lane nearly taking me out yesterday highlighted that the main issue w/r/t cycling safety in Australia is driver education.
I honestly hope that he goes away and looks up the regulations and realises he’s in the wrong. That would be nice.

Ad campaigns from the relevant governing bodies (TAC, VicRoads, etc) for motorcycle safety, drug driving, drowsy driving, pedestrian safety etc - but it’s up to the BUG’s (mostly Amy Gillet Foundation) to get the cycle education uplift? Throw a few ads on TV and the radio along with a few blitzes on d*** driving and start to change the culture instead of targeting the victims (Sydney, I’m looking at you).
And Amy Gillett Foundation is pretty much only looking at the whole thing from the POV of sports cyclists. There’s very little consideration for talking up commuter/utility cycling safety.
Re AGF: I find it terribly ironic that “1 Metre Matters” laws would have made zero difference in the crash that killed Amy. From Wikipedia: “a young German driver lost control of her car and drove head first into six members of the Australian women’s cycling squad”. It also notes that the driver was disqualified from driving for 8 months as a result of the crash…
It’s also amusing watching Mark Textor (chairman of AGF) lose his shit on Twitter at the cops for not enforcing 1MM but pinging cyclists for bells and track standing instead.

Though NSW & VIC do need the RMS & TAC respectively to kick it in gear with some advertising about safety (that doesn’t blame the victim for not wearing enough f*****g hi-vis and lights!) and start educating the motoring public. Also agree with Textor that the police should be utilized in a fashion that prevents the most injuries and aggression (ie not fining cyclists for mundane & harmless crap) and protecting the most vulnerable (pedesitrians & cyclists).
TC: I haven’t consciously noticed any increased animosity towards me when I ride - bunch rides and commuting. Drivers still want to get ahead, but no abuse or the like. Even managed to ride 2 abreast along the top part of Wakehurst Parkway for a little bit before I made the call to single up.
Yeah, no increased animosity per se. This guy yesterday was just clearly ignorant of the road rules, and wanted everyone to know it.
I haven’t had any extra abuse but I just feel like the vibe has changed a lot. We were pretty much the most cycling unfriendly city in the world before these laws came in, now we’re actually just beyond a joke.

Sure, there’s still a media beat-up that occurs here, but we have a city council interested in investing in cycling infrastructure and increasing participation.
Plus the cafes and liveable city and the cafes… did I mention the cafes? And bike shops and cycles trails and stuff! We will welcome you all with open arms
