look, i’m no cadel fan, especially as he beat me in that whole ‘cyclist of the year’ thing. but to say that the 2009 season wasn’t great for him is to overlook a small thing people sometimes like to call the WORLD ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
you just gotta let it go, man.
Also, Cadel in pink! Go son!
She’s pretty darn awesome (when she’s not screaming, at least).
Apologies for off-topic baby talk. Turns out I had plenty of time after Escape From the Suburbs; labour really started on the Sunday night, about half-an-hour after I got home from EFTS, so it seemed to be perfect timing. But then, much like me getting up those hills on the way to Doncaster, the labour stalled and Mrs Beaker had to put up with mild contractions every ten minutes for two-and-a-half days. No sleep. No fun.
Got fed up by Wed afternoon, so headed to hospital to get things moving, and Junior Beaker was born early Thursday morning. All healthy. All good.
Now, back on topic. Watched a bit of last night’s stage on the interweb with Junior Beaker, had the Italian footage up and running, and tried to run the English audio from Eurosport (using links from steephill.tv), but couldn’t get the audio to work. Anyone else try the same, or know of anywhere to get an English feed? All my searches yielded nothing.
great to hear dave. and even better to hear you’re brainwashing her already.
it was interesting to hear cadel complaining about lack of team support yesterday:
Evans Frustrated After Losing The Pink Jersey | Cyclingnews.com
seems we were too excited about the ‘new’ cadel.
There was never a new cadel, he just wasn’t riding that ugly Canyon.
no, now he rides an ugly BMC instead.
actually, i don’t mind those BMCs. i’d ride one in a flash.
He’s probably right to complain though. It was strange to see the tour leader driving the chase bunch in the last 15km, with basically no help from anyone else. Where were his teammates?
Actually quite enjoyed the Italian commentary last night. At this rate Junior Beaker will be speaking Italian before English. It was also sort of cool to hear Cadel answering questions in Italian after Stage 2. Even in another language you can tell when he’s having a whinge, as he still has that little disbelieving chuckle after each sentence. “… I did actually win some races before the Worlds you know… chuckle chuckle…” (paraphrasing)

The yahoo/eurosport website has a live audio feed. No steephill/justin/BVLS trickery required. I posted a link in one of the spring classics threads (RVV?)
Cheers Blakey. That’s the main one I was trying. If it’s working for others then I guess it’s just a computer fail on my part.
Am enjoying full coverage on Eurosport with Foxtel IQ although it feels like July all of a sudden??
Stage 3 - carnage all over.

Having to rely on a CTT rider to help out? I hope the managers have stuck a giant rocket up the arses of the rest of the team, and BMC doesnt turn into Silence-Lotto of last season.

“Even if he’d been on the Titanic, he wouldn’t have fought for a place on a lifeboat. He doesn’t like fighting for a place at the front and is waiting to jump away on his own in the mountains. It’s just a pity he will start with a 100-second handicap.”
Quick question: I can’t seem to find out whether there are time bonuses in this year’s Giro or not… does anyone know? Anyone?..Bueller? And does anyone know if time bonuses will feature in this year’s TdF?
Yeh, something like 20 secs for a stage win? Would explain why Farrar was a second behind cadel after his win. Don’t know about the TdF though.
I’m only getting to catch up with the Giro highlights on SBS as time permits but I hope Matt Keenan doesn’t get much air time during the TdF coverage, that young man’s voice puts me straight to sleeeeeeeeep.
Give me the rich harmonic timbres of Paul, the “Murray Thomson” twang of Phil, even the nasal rasp of Dave Mckenzie…
