The Great Bike Ride

Is anyone thinking of doing this in November? I think the 53km is doable on fixed gear bike.

i’d be up for it if we could get a crew together, although i would not be bustin my arse by any means, and i have to fly out to melb the next day and want my bike in good condition to take with me

I suspect I will be doing it with the roadie.

Definitely doable on a fixed gear, I distinctly remember one killer hill where I had to ride up in zig-zags looking like an idiot, but the rest of the ride is quite flat and enjoyable.

70-75gi would probably be ideal for the ride.

if i remember correctly, the entry fees weren’t the cheapest.
Riding for charity though

I’ve ridden a couple of things for charity in my time too … sigh

hahahahah

Haha, very clever. I might consider going on the FG if there is a crew.

Is this the hill in Mosman Park just after Meads and before the Mosman Park Bowling Club? That is a killer, very steep.

I’ll be taking a 42x16 setup.

Yes!

just out of interest what do most people ride on in perth?,

my current ride is 42/16(70 inch’s), but i find i spin out to much and climbs arnt too hard (mind you i dont have any cravy climbs on my local rides or i avoid them)

so my new wheel set’s getting done in 42/19(59 inch’s) is this a bigger jump than i think it is? any recommendations???

would jumping to 42/17 be enough of a change? and i dont want to use 42/18 as it only gives me 3 skid spot’s…

but yeah we could organize a few practice rides or something and get a crew together, any one know what it means about entering as a team?

you’ve got it backwards gink/ you want higher gear inches so you spin out less. you’re on 70 now, you can try 75ish. that would mean getting a smaller cog on the rear wheel, rather then a larger one

+1

Id say 70Gi is a good all round ratio for Perth. It’s not as flat as some say it is. I’d stick with 42-16 for now, and if you feel it’s too spinny chuck a 15t cog on.

G’day

The entrance fee goes to the organisers, TriEvents, not to charity. Only funds raised by individuals/teams make it to the charities.

Andrew

haha ok now i feel like a dick and realise why i never got anything better than a c in yr 10 math…

aushiker dosent it say you can skip the entrance fee if you raise enough cash?

I ride 48-19 for all daily commuting  spinners are winners.

Put a 17t on for long rides though.

G’day

You could be right on that. I vaguely remember something along those lines last year. I didn’t go the fund-raising route so didn’t follow through on that aspect.

Andrew

Lower GI + spinning = technique improvement (Plus greater ability to power stop, skid, slide, etc) whereas a higher GI = power improvement + top end speeeeed!

But agreed - 70 +/- around town is fine.

I’m down for the ride. 50kms aint no thang! How much is registration?

did any one register for this?

i just try’d to but online registrations had closed,
is is just me or is it weird that they closed so early, like its only mid sept and its not on till late nov

are you sure?
Just went to the website and it seems like its still open for registration…

yeah that’s what weirded me out, actually try and register and it take you to another page telling you its closed, when it says its open till the 20 of November or something
