The Wheel Building Thread

Not that I’ve found. And I’ve not found any frames that have 130mm OLD and a disc tab either.

The Voodoo Wazoo is advertised as 130mm. Have checked with Blakey since posting, he says it’s 135mm

VooDoo released that no-one made a hub to suit so the disc tab was redundant without changing the spacing.
Try and find a 135mm rear disc hub that takes a Campy cassette - 2nd impossible thing before breakfast.

Such a thing was found for a customer over here… but he opted for a new frame instead. Ask blakey what it was…

Where/who in Sydney would you get to build your wheels?

I’m using a Mavic Speedcity hub on my La Cruz with campy. 135mm, disc. Your best best is to find a disc brake wheel which shares a freehub body with the road hubs made by the same company, then get the campy road freehub for that hub. Eg Token, Mavic, Fulcrum?

Or just get a conversion cassette from Miche.

Good idea, +1

Spirito: Rhys had a set built by him, is happy.
Tom at Hell on Wheels: he’s built a couple of sets for me and I’m happy.

Thanks. Emailed Tom a couple of weeks ago but didn’t hear back. Ended up getting them built at Bike Deport on Enmore Road - haven’t ridden them yet so can’t give a decent review, but they certainly look like they’ll work and built them up pretty quickly too.

DT swiss. Both 240s and 350s disc hubs can be take a campy freehub body.

Mavic Crossmax 29er wheels are a narrow rim and should take a mavic campy freehub body.

A hope pro 2 hub might take a pro 3 campy freehub body.

Your best bet is definitely dt swiss, and they are far better hubs.

10v conversion cassettes for shimano splined wheels are available from american classic (discontinued, IIRC) and miche. IIRC, Wheels manufacturing also make a conversion cassette.

Have been investigating this further.
Hope could be a real option and I like their gear. The Hope Pro 2 EVO and Hope Pro 3 have interchangeable freehubs.
The only issue is if the Campy DS spacer would be interchangeable between the Pro 3 and the Pro2 EVO, from the documentation I’ve found on their site it’s not.

Otherwise I’d probably consider going Campy with 135mm spacing and rim brakes.

A number of people report that hand building a Miche cassette with Shimano cogs and Campy spacers works well.

whats the method of lacing a 32h rim to a 36h hub? bought some campy pistas and omega v’s but didnt realise the omegas were 32 :frowning:

^ don’t do it.

btw, i’m looking to build a wheelset based on Campag Record hubs. 32H. But I couldn’t find any decent rims that comes in 32H. I’m eyeing HED Belgium C2 rims but still open for suggestions…

^ Kiasu’s Campy Omega’s would probs go alright ha ha

Question: Is there anyone on our shores that can cut and roll spokes? I’m looking at over 100 dollars for the 24 spokes I need from the internets. Ridiculous!

What specs you need?

224mm, 2.3mm, not fussed on which type of butting. Can’t be picky with this short length.
Good quality stainless.

Alright you wheelbuilding specialists…

What Rims do I build up to these 24H Superbe Pro Hubs for the track only…

Would a 20mm depth rim be ok with the small spoke count or should I go with Chinarbon rims in 38mm

Any word from the wiser will help

Cheers

Dubrat out!

I’m no wiser but I just broke a spoke on my rear 38mm Chinese carbon clincher (after putting about 1,500kms on it). Huge part of it was due to poor built. Spoke selection also was a big part of it. I’m 70kg FWIW.

If you don’t mind tubular, I’d suggest you go Planet X. Almost the same price but at least from a reputable seller.

Planet X 20mm Carbon Rim

Stans Alpha 340s come in 24h and are a semi-aero alloy rim, light at 345g.

Alibi, sounds like you’re after DT Alpine spokes at that diameter. Check recumbent shops, or most shops can get spokes custom cut by Dirt Works (DT importer) who have a Phil Wood spoke cutter.
