The Woolshed - Ezy's house renovation.

You guys are crushing it!
My wife and I would have divorced by now if we tried this.

Same here.

Le grille?!?

Not a huge amount of visual progress over the weekend. We started off heading out to a few shops to look for front doors… this hasn’t been locked in, but we will probably have this confirmed in a week.

I spent both Saturday and Sunday under the house with a nailgun and strapping in all of the insulation. I am still itchy and have a lot of bumps and bruises on my head and lower back.

Ivan built our linen cupboard which backs onto the laundry. The laundry walls are all up now and the cavity slider door is in. We will need to get all the plumbing roughed in next. Then I will head back under the house to finish off the insulation. We also took delivery of our tiles for the wet areas.

Next weekend we will be installing a couple of Velux skylights which will be placed above the kitchen island bench. This will ensure we get as much north facing light into the kitchen as possible. This wasn’t in the initial budget, but I have been working some serious overtime at work so I thought I could treat the house a little.

The renderers still haven’t shown up, I think they are scared of a little rain.

So from here, we are fairly close to gyprock. A few more walls will need to be straightened and another wall built.

I have a major case of ‘over it’ at the moment. No riding, no social life.

Skylights are the best, i’m glad you got to factor something like that into the build. They’re the kinda thing that never stop bringing joy to a room IMO. Your house gets even more exciting! (I know you’re over it but blame winter for lack of daytime hours)

If you have the budget pay for some help, I know what it’s like I did 12-14hr days 7 days a week on my first place and it bloody near broke me but the end result will be worth it trust me.
Looking good mate.

Cupboard looks good. When I see where it is and what it backs onto, I remembered my grandmother had a linen closet that was accessible from both sides in her Laundry. So she could bring in the folded washing from the line, or the drier, through the laundry and straight into laundry side of the linen cupboard. Then when anything was required it was accessible from the other door in hallway the bedrooms were on.

That is bloody smart! Hmmm.

Unfortunately - we are going over budget as it is. I just need to push through… once we are in I will be so grateful for the effort that has been put in. Waking up and being at Stromlo for a quick lap or going on the cotter/uriarra loop (standard roadie ride) before work will make all of this all worth it. It’s all building for a particular lifestyle… I just want to get it finished. I’m not getting any younger.

Off the top of my head - Here is a list of what we have left to do. ** = to be completed by tradies.

Whatchu got planned as a thank you for Ivan? He sounds like a champ too.

Ivan is a metal guy, so for starters… this:
http://www.tharwavalleyforge.com/courses/japanese-knives

He doesn’t like to travel, he doesn’t like eating out, he doesn’t like to be spoilt. He is a difficult man to buy presents for! But he is VERY keen on that knife making course.

Not a lot of progress on the weekend. Ivan took half a day off to go and have a look at a house he built when he was 19 which is actually two doors down from where I am living at the moment. He is thinking of buying it back. The good thing is, his house is still standing strong.

So a bit more wall straightening was done which covers all of the old walls, now to straighten all of the new walls which won’t require the same amount of work at all. I had a bit of a site clean up and took to the exterior walls with a stiff brush to remove any dirt that has built up over our recent rainfall. The less dirt and dust on the brick, the better for when it comes to the render being applied.

The main thing though was an installation of one of our skylights. There will be another one installed next weekend. These skylights will sit over the space in-between the kitchen island bench and the kitchen cupboards. It should be a nice kitchen to spend a lot of time in!

The big thing though is I managed to get out on the bike. You couldn’t wipe the grin off my face for the remainder of the day.

I love these Monday morning updates. Good work on the skylights!

+1.

You are part of the reason we got these actually! There you go. Thanks for your contribution

John Belushi approves.

Maybe you will finally develop an interest in food and beverage preparation…

Good work on the ‘taking your bike off sweet jumps’ part of the weekend too. That was an important part of the process as well.

Keep up the good work mate!
