Indeed. Pity about the Champ spokes. For a bomb proof training wheelset that would be hard to beat.
eh, eh?
Yes these two threads are connected. Damn you Blakey.
Open pros are so 2010 go 23mm like a23 h+son or belgiums
Open Pros are cheaper though. Seems like you chuck a HED sticker on a rim and you charge double.
OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS‽
Newsflash: sometimes better products cost more.
HPlusson Archetype: 470g, 23mm wide. Balleuring rims.
Velocity A23: 426g, 23mm wide.
Mavic Open Pro: 435g, 19mm wide.
I think HED have moved to selling wheels only, not rims now?
Ill be honest I hate open pros.
you can buy any bare part from hed
even bare chests?
But for serious, they’re not offered very widely anymore, HED’s website only shows complete wheels. Quick searching shows Fairwheel/ExcelSports have clinchers/tubs and wheelbuilder.com has tubs.
the internet is not the only place you can get bike parts blake dog!
Yeah I’d go them or archetype laced to dt Swiss, ultegra or circus monkey,
Or blow the budget and get hed laced to alchemy from fair wheel and be done with it
They will last for ever and ride like a *magic carpet
*may not actually ride like a magic carpet.

nope
100gms at the hub isnt going to improve the ‘lightness’ (or lightness feel) of your bike as much as taking some weight off another area. especially if you have an already functional wheelset.
try looking at lighter rims, spokes, seat, seatpost, cranks, pedals, bars…
but of course if you are just asking questions to ask questions go right ahead…
Thanks for the thoughts Nik.
Respectfully disagree on the above though. Mass is mass, whether it is on the rim or on the hub it doesn’t matter. Pretty sure the whole 'reducing weight from the outer part of the wheel was debunked, well from a recent article I read anyway. 100g difference is quite a lot for a rear hub. It’s for my partners bike, sorry could have elaborated.
^ The further outward you use lighter parts on a wheel, the greater the dynamic weight reduction - Gerd Schraner
100g is still what, maybe 1.5% of the bike’s weight. Add rider weight and the 100g is even more irrelevant.
I’ve never been a weight weenie so maybe I’m speculating here, but I’d guess that to make a truly lightweight bike you need to take a small amount of weight off a large number of components. Cherry picking small weight savings on a few parts isn’t going to make a noticeable difference. And all of that must be at odds with ‘durable’ and ‘affordable’.
Anyway, if you like them and they fit the budget, then just buy them.
And if you return my headset tools you’ll be saving a few kilos off the weight of your house.
Oh.
This. The old “Horatio is blocked from Google” gambit.
Oh, SNAP!
