Try The Track Session in early Feb

Details here: Redirecting...

1pm Sunday 20th March has been confirmed.

Approx Costs where applicable will be:
Track Use - $10
Day Licence - $15 (if not a member of a Cycling NSW affiliated club)
Bike Hire - $10 (If required)
Helmet Hire - $10 (If required)
Coaching Fee - $20 (if this is your first time)

So, in total, it should cost between $45 and $65 per person for the afternoon.

The plan will be for those who have never ridden track before to do a structured session with a Cycling Australia coach which is intended as an introductory session for anyone who has never ridden track before, without the intimidation of faster more experienced riders around. It’ll teach everyone the rules, track ettiquite, techniques and have you riding around and using as much of the track as your comfortable with.
Potentially Gavin White and a few other more experienced guys will be on hand to offer any advice where needed.

If you intend to bring your own bike, please be aware that only dedicated track bikes will be allowed. They must not be fixed gear road bikes, or polo bikes. They must be safe, have the correct track dropouts, drop bars and no brakes. Toe clips and straps are ok, as are SPD’s, but BOGear or SGB straps and platform pedals will more than likely be frowned upon.

Gearing wise, anything between 75-85 gear inches is a good place to start depending on your fitness and pedaling style. Then maybe increase it later in the afternoon if you have cogs/rings availaible.

If you intend to hire a bike, and you want to run your own shoes and pedals, this can be arranged.
They’ve requested the heights and/or bike size requirements of anyone wanting to hire a bike so they can have them ready when we arrive.

Please invite anyone you think might be interested.

There is a limit of 20 places (2 groups of 10)
Please only select “Attending” if you are definitely coming to do the coaching session.
Select “Maybe Attending” if you are unsure if you can make it, or just want to watch from the infield. Please note though that preference will be given to those who select “Attending” in the instance that we have 20 turn up and want to do the session.

If I’m around ill be there.

I’d like to have a crack. Consider my hand shown.

in like anna meares

Yep, I’m keen. Lois would probably be in for this as well.

Im raising my hand, only if its not the first weekend. The first weekend, 5th and 6th of Feb, Sydney is hosting a national polo tournament.

Might make it the last weekend in January then. Pending availability of the track and the coach

Sounds good. I should be getting back from holidays around then.

Just a reminder - you can get a training license for $77 per year, including club membership, if anyone is wondering about signing up to a club.
This gets you onto the track, but doesn’t include proper coaching like Nathan is planning.

I’m in the process of learning that there’s a lot to learn about racing on the track…
(Have my first race meet at Tempe this Saturday if anyone wants to come along)
Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club • View topic - Omnium next Saturday night!! 11/12/2010

I’ll have to get a new license by then! ohnoes $$$$$

keen. hand is up and waving.

Ok, I’ve fired off emails to the Cycling NSW coach who does the try the track sessions, and also to Gavin White the track monstor so the ball is officially rolling.

Ok, the CNSW coach got back to me this afternoon and the event is definitely on.

Dates aren’t fixed as yet, but it’s looking like a sunday afternoon in late Jan or early Feb.

Approx Costs where applicable will be:
Track Use - $10
Day Licence - $15 (if not a member of a Cycling NSW affiliated club)
Bike Hire - $10 (If required)
Helmet Hire - $10 (If required)
Coaching Fee - $20 (if this is your first time)

So, in total, it should cost between $50 and$70 per person for the afternoon.

I still need to sort the details but the plan will be for those who have never ridden track before to turn up an hour earlier to do a structured session with the coach which is intended as an introductory session for anyone who has never ridden track before. It’ll teach everyone the rules, track ettiquite, techniques and have you riding around and using as much of the track as your comfortable with.
Then after thats finished, everyone else can come along and join in for some laps and a bit of a social session and Gavin White and a few other more experienced guys will be on hand to offer any advice where needed.

Feel free to invite whoever, partners, friends, collegues etc and post this on other boards. I will need to get a solid idea of numbers soon though.

Please list (or pm me) your name, email address and whether you will be doing the coaching session, and also do the same for anyone else you who will be attending with you (friends/partners etc) and I’ll add you to an email list for further details of the event.

I’m excited for this, I’ll have to do the first timers training, other than that I just have to swap my pedals and take my brake off.

Awesome work Nathan!!!

Definitely in for this - Nice work!

Will PM you when I’m home, but I’m very keen for the beginners course too - everything gets a bit intimidating in terms of track riding, especially the etiquette factor! Hopefully I can get the new bike built up in time.

So in. Time to get the hillbrick back to track spec.

… and i thought my 45.4 gear inch polo bike might have been able to cut it. cheers for setting it up nathan.

I have a few smaller cogs should anyone like to set up in a manly gear. You will get kudos if you run my 12t on the back!

Bring it thursday so I can try it for a giggle!

Edit I also have a cogs ranging from 13-17 which I’m happy to lend out providing I’m not using them.

i am so in for this
