Visp trx-790

Hi guys, been lurking around for a while getting some ideas here and there.

Just finished my new fixie to go to work on.

My last fixie I had was nearly 20 years ago when I used to ride to 18km school everyday.

Frame and forks Visp TRX790 58cm with supplied Cane Creek headset and OTA seatpost and clamp.

I had the frame sandblasted and painted in a metallic candy blue colour by a friend who mostly paints hotrods.

Sram 48t S100 crankset with Powerspline 108mm BB, Sram Rival brakes, Sram TT500 brake levers (were anodised red, now satin black powered coat)

YBN chrome half link chain.

BBB seat, BBB 420mm bullhorns and BBB black bartape

PRO PLT 110mm headstem.

Pro-lite Rosa rims running 16tooth ATM and 23mm Gatorskin hardshells.

The pedals are Shimano

The total weight was 9.500kg, which I thought was pretty good considering the lack of carbon components and frame.

Cheers Angelo

wow, a sweet visp. I dig it.

Looking good Ang, paint job especially.

Good to see one of your first posts wasn’t “hi I want to build a fixie, what do I do?” This is what all first posts should be like. Take note noob lurkers, this is how it’s done.

Great paint job, and a well chosen selection of parts for a commuter. I’ll be interested to hear how you find the SRAM cranks – they seem to be quite good value, and I was thinking of getting some for my own commuter.

Wait wait wait…
48-16?
I would think 78 gear inches would be too much to commute, no?
Then again, I commute by car, like the bitch I am.

I’ve done it. Its fine, especially with brakes.
Quite a few riders rule out higher gearing because they can’t skid quite as well on it.

nice job on the advice

I was pushing a similar gear ratio a while ago and I just hated it though, and I wouldn’t wanna have to ride on it every day.
But each to their own.

yeah why not give the new comers an idea of a good way to start on the forum.

Yeah - I was on that for a while. Fine for flat and small hills. Struggled on bigger hills though. Easy enough to play around with ratios once he sorts out what he likes.

You must be a tall bugger with a 58cm frame, 110mm stem, and then bullhorns. Those brakes would be a fair stretch for me to reach. Looks good though mate.

Is that a pinball machine?

Thanks guys for the replys,

I am just over 6’ and my road bike runs a 120mm headstem on a 58 frame as well (Cannondale R2000) with normal road bars.

So far so good, gearing is working out pretty good for me ATM, just got back into the bikes after a 15 year gap, trying to lose some kilos and get some fitness up.

Yep that is a pinball machine, I restore and sell them when I get the chance.

Cheers Angelo

Is it fixed or single speed? Why the rear brake?

Fixed, added the rear for just in case when in traffic… haven’t needed it yet, but if life turns to shit it’s there.

makes me feel guilty for having none.

i just dont understand kids riding FIXED with a rear brake, and free wheel with just a front brake…seriously WTF…

I doubt this guys a kid dude
But there’s always gonna be fluctuations from the norm, you know?

I like the idea of f-r brakes, anything that makes a bike more comfortable and easier to ride is ok by me. Also, this is the nicest VISP I’ve seen. Way to go with different parts and a good paint job, I really like it.

Symmetry? It particularly makes sense if you’re using road brakes, want two hoods and don’t want to have to use a dummy lever or stoker grip.

What are those groovy looking cable guides?
Are they stick on?
