Weekday night ride (Melb)

There was a request last night during the Vic Mart Drag races for some weekday night rides.

These rides will be mainly focused on skills riding rather than actually riding around. The plan is to meet around Fed Square on Wed or Thur around 6.30pm. There’s a big patch of sand at the back of fed square which I think will be good for this.

So who’s interested? And is there anyone out there with the super fixie skills willing to pass 'em on to those of us not so blessed?

Count me in. I might have to bust out the platforms and finally learn to do a fixed mono.

SAND?!?!?!?

Me too!! Although it will be late May before I can make it… My er ‘skills’ could really do with some non-emergency-learning help.

OK … First skills session will be this Wed 5th April 6.30pm

Meet at the big patch of sand behind Fed Square (next to the river).

Nothing serious … just meeting up to trade some skills and practice as a group.

Cheers

whats with the Sand Venue??

I don’t understand?

do you want to have to clean your chain more regularly than necessary??

It’s a bit more gravel than sand. It’s good for those learning to skid because it’s loose but shallow and flat with lots of room to make mistakes.

[personally] i reckon its easier to skid on ashfelt. less gravel rash too.

(turn fire hydrant on for best effects)

see you guys sooooon…

I agree. But if you’re trying to learn skidding from scratch I think it’s easier to stop the rear wheel on a loose surface.

Once you’ve learnt that, it’s easier to do it on sealed surfaces, and you can do longer skids too.

Of course, I’m tipping you can do monster skids anywhere with those legs big enough to tear a chainring out of a crank

Hopefully the rain will stop in the next couple of hours… Or that could help, for those massive Museum skids.

Don’t be soft. At least you’ll get a t shirt.

It was a cold cold cold night …

In attendance was 853, roguedubb, pete and myself. Most of our time was spent on that new bridge linking Fed Sq to the MCG. A very nice spot with cool yellow strip lighting and very little people traffic.

Might make a good spot for the next drag races …
