Wheree to find Chainring Bolts for a Single in Sydney?

Where can i find some Chainring Bolts for a Single Chainring? I’ve tried a whole bunch of places in the past and a few this Sunday Morning.

  • King St Cyclery, Newtown (Shop & Workshop)
  • CBD bikes
  • Clarence St Cyclery
  • one or tow others i can’t remember… with no luck

I guess the Only place it probably Cheeky Monkey?
but they are not open today…

They really are not easy to find.

Yeah Cheeky is your best bet, but as you say they aren’t open today :frowning:

Depending on where you are you could also try Wooleys Wheels on Oxford street or Europa on Anzac Parade near the Doncaster pub. I loathe both of these shops Woolys cause it’s too expensive and Europa cause they’re just plain shite, but when you need parts, you need parts and anywhere will do!

Any BMX shop would have them.

Does Sydney even have a dedicated BMX shop?

exactly! If you know of one around the inner city / inner west please let me know.

Who said you need a dedicated BMX shop? All you need is somewhere that sells something above the bottom of the line BMX. I can walk into half a dozen Brisbane shops within a 5 km radius that I know stock single chainring bolts. I don’t believe that Sydney can’t match that.

A quick Google suggests that Alstar Cycles or The Bicycle Store should be able to help but I have no idea of Sydney geography. Even a MTB-focused store would do, there are lots of DH and jumping rigs running single chainrings. mtb-oz

OK,

I got some at City Bike Depot

  • they were a bit pricy though

$4 each!

they also had a very pretty looking Bianchi Pista in there…

$4 for each bolt? wtf!

I hope they’re not steel for that price.

i bought a pack of 5 at bike barn at parra for rrp$15

You’ve probably sorted the problem by now I suppose . You know the replaceable hangers on geared bikes? they come with chainring bolts that are the perfect length. So if any bike shop is replacing these the old part has the bolt as well as the new , so the shop will have extra bolts , if the keep them!

u could also file down ur old bolts…

I’d pay $15 dollars to not file down my old bolts :stuck_out_tongue:

Agreed. Anyone who has actually files down bolts will tell you it’s a better idea to go and buy short ones.

Ditto:P go find some $15 bolts…
just said it in case he still hasn’t found any and wanted a set pronto.

Oh I dunno, it’s quite good fun cutting/filing them down (some people polish rims for recreation). Just that you need to drop $15 on a hacksaw blade, a file etc.

Then what happens when you f#@k one up and cross the thread… back to the shop

its really not that hard, if you look closely, most longer bolts have a “flange” between the thread and the actual end of the open screw side. so its not that risky. On the other hand if u do, just a couple of back and forth twists with the screw can correct the thread.
