Who makes the nicest 130BCD chainrings?

So I’ve got some Ultegra SL cranks that I’m going to run as a single speed. I therefore need a nice 48T 3/32 or 1/8 chainring. Because the cranks are dark coloured, the chainring probably needs to be black.

Any thoughts on a good chainring to use?

-Cycle underground (already got one in Silver, but it just doesn’t look right on the cranks)
-Sugino Messenger in black
-Surly?

Lastly, does it matter if you use a geared chainring with ramps and pins etc in a single speed setup?

Cheers, Horatio

No contest. Wins on price, quality & durability.

try one of the original rings - should run ok if the chainline is right :?

It’s just that they look a bit, well agricultural if you know what I mean… :expressionless:
Am I superficial for saying this lol?

Only have the crankarms unfortunately- ebay special.

Just out of interest - Did you get them from Justin in Brisbane?

Um… he was from Brisbane not sure about his name though. Something about chaning from 172.5 -> 170mm because of injury? Small world?

Not me - I bought the other set he had for sale. Small world indeed.

i’ve bought 2 or 3 CU chainrings. last one was the the ‘12’ design, polished. looks great and is a great chainring.

How about Specialties TA rings then?

I have 9speed Alize 53/39 and they’re mirror polished, look good.

There’s TA track in 1/8" or Alize / Heoga in 3/32".

Stimulate your local economy. #3, 11 & 12 look classy enough to me.

PS:
TA = 7075, Zn alloyed, can be significantly harder & stronger in T6 condition, age hardenable.

CU = 5083, Mg alloyed, has good weldability, corrosion resistance, can be work/strain hardened.
