rok n roollllll
How did the mudfest go. I am going for a roll down the Maribyrnong on Monday morning now as I am guessing that the yarra trails are going to be flooded if anybody wants to come let me know and pm with a number.
It was…interesting. My white socks are an earthy brown now. But, should the rain ease off from now, its quite doable.
You photographer types would’ve loved beaconsfield on sunday. We got there as it started to rain. it quickly turned into a steaming rain forest, no signs of humanity anywhere, just trails turning into rivers, birds trying to stay dry, snakes gtfo’ing where they could.
The maribyrnong is rocking at the moment all the rain as has screwed up all the fireroads into gravel, mud, sandy mess’s not great for the park rangers but good for cross rides. Just take lots of tubes me and elre managed to get 3 flats in one hit finshing the ride with elre riding on the one useable bike to get the broom wagon. I am up for some weekend and night training rides down if peple are up for it.
Erle back on his MTB! woot!
As HMC said - it was some ‘biblical shit’ out there on sunday.
Bruce’s is certainly not in as good a state as it was on saturday. Those moonscapes near the last climb are back to being slide-fests.
even with a mud-specific front tyre i was getting all kinds of squirelly in sections (but that may have been due to some over-enthusiasm)
the new bike refused to get clogged up, even when i seemed to be carrying half a football field of grass.
a couple of days of sunny weather and i think it’ll be good again… in the usual parts. the section before bourke road bridge is done for a while.
My cross bike will be finished this afternoon and I’m suuuper keen to go hit some trails. Who wants to help me bust my CX cherry? I’m looking at you NikCee
I thought of you on Sunday as I arrived home in the car at 3:55pm ![]()
Patience young padewan… make sure its all working before you head out on the trails and experience a mechanical failure and have to work out how to get home from Banyule, covered in smelly mud. ![]()
most likely this weekend… maybe earlier.
I’m happy to be shown the way by the master, I’ll be ironing out the kinks in the next day or two and then it’s on.
Either way, sounds like a sweet adventure.
i may be up for something saturday.
If it’s open again, I’ll most likely be heading to Lysterfield on Saturday with a couple of other mountain bikers if anyones interested. I’ve ridden Lysterfield before with Benzy on his ss cx and he kept up just fine, so it shouldn’t be a problem for you cx types.
Correction, 4 flats in one hit! Other than that it was fun as shit, the washed out fireroads are fun riding. It’s the first time I’ve taken my cross bike offroad in any serious way, I’m looking forward to riding there again.
I checked Monday, still closed. Come out anyway, I’ll take you to beaconsfield. It’s only an extra 10k drive. If you come to mine first I’ll show you the way.
Cx guys would possibly get injured though.
I’ll speak to my mates about it and let you know. How technical is it out at Beaconsfield? Were you riding out there on a hard tail? I aks because I haven’t ridden too much off road in the last year and don’t want anything too gnarly, hence the original plan to go to Lysterfield.
Dude I was riding it fully rigid/ss until last thursday.
It’s not TOO difficult. I mean, I’ve only been riding mtb for 5 months and I only struggle in two parts.
Sweet, sounds like sweet riding out that way. Turns out we’re gonna head to Woodend this weekend anyway but i’m keen to try it out soon.
I rode the Yarra trails last night, heaps of fun, although quite overgrown in areas. Gonna go for another ride tonight, meet at pipe bridge at fairfield at 6:15 if anyones keen, all bikes welcome, but cx riders be warned some trails might get a little hairy.
Also heading to Woodend on Saturday if anyone’s keen, unfortunately no spare car space but happy to meet crew out there.
