And fwiw my toaster has a crumpet setting and it actually works well. I’m with Jono … crumpets should be round and it’s gotta be with butter. One of life’s sweet gifts.
Personally I still can’t do vegemite alone on crumpets unless it’s with toasted cheese on them - it’s nay too bad.
Vegemite doesn’t belong on a crumpet. Crumpets are for sweet toppings only

Crumpets are awesome with vegemite. It sometimes takes me minutes to decide if I want honey or vegemite on my crumpets. Minutes.

I discovered last year that magic happens when butter and promite are appropriately applied to a corn thin.
Sunday breakfast was vegemite toast with fried eggs. So good.
Was going to get crumpets, but my local was completely sold out of round ones. There were at least 3 different brands of the rectangle ones left on the shelf, showing that they are inferior to the round ones, or at least not what the public want in a crumpet.

Crumpets only ever with quality salty butter. Never with margarine or that 20% oil spreadable butter.
