Dozens of Australiaās best vision-impaired cricketers have come together for the biennial National Blind Cricket Championships, which have begun in Adelaide.
The players say while communication is often the key, the level of sledging remains just the same.
more americans playing bad sports games.
Iāve been wondering why my English friends have been so happy today ⦠the Poms havenāt lost a game all year
One of my favourite batsmen in the past year, Phil Hughes today passed away at age 25.
Yeah man, itās so shocking. Nothing good in it at all.
very sad.
So sad. Finding it hard to comprehend; just ācracked skull, swelling around brain, deadā. Seems so⦠unlikely?
I guess the actually medical impacts of the injury are nobodyās business but the familyās. Just such a strange thing to get your head around that you could die playing cricket.
Same mechanism behind coward punches and/or pavement head strike. Big arterial bleed, big rise in intracranial pressure, blocking off of blood supply, coning, hypoxia, tissue damage. Brains have a bit of resilience, but not much.
I canāt believe it. Itās such a shocking terribly thing. So sad.
came here to post the same after seeing a news update. part of me feels like there should be as much grief for the people we donāt know that get king hit etc, but i guess thatās just the way it goes with sport stars and the media etc.
i donāt really follow the cricket unless itās at home, but it still feels like you have some kind of weird connection with the guy.
so sad.
RIP.
People die in terrible ways all the time. We all know that. This death is tangible to anyone with even the slightest interest in cricket though. We feel like we can identify in such a tangible way with Phil and all of the people close to him. Itās so real and we canāt help but be moved by it. Itās OK to grieve for people you donāt know.

Iām not really moved by ācoward punchā victims, like I go out, but have never seen a fight where both parties arenāt to be blamed nor have I ever been involved in a fight. However I did play cricket for 10+ years, which included the introduction of mandatory helmets for junior players in my ~3rd year of it. Iāve been hit myself in the helmet at about 135km/h as a junior as well as had a fair share sizzle past my face (I was short).
His duel tons in his second (I think) international test really stuck with me. I was still very into cricket at that stage and at the time was still playing cricket and was in my last year of school. He was 3 years older then me and his birthday was 3 days after mine.
I was always a shit batsmen while playing as I was so scared of a bouncer to the head, I would take my eyes of the ball.
Then on the other hand, I was a fast bowler that could bowl the type of balls I was so scared of.
If this happened when I was playing, I probably would have quit. I would never want to bat, and Iād curb my bowling Iād think.
Managed to get to the 1st day of the cricket at the Basin Reverve in Wellington, such a good ground. Can wander out of the ground for a really good beer in a park from the best bottle shop and still see scoreboard, then go back in. And they let you on the ground at lunch to play or check out the pitch.
Watched NZ win the test against SL this morning, great game, we were out of it, back in, out, back in, then won.
Aus game is a bit boring by comparison.
yeah, be good if india got a few more wickets to make it interesting.
Was at the first day at the SCG. Good until Warner and Rodgers got themselves out, then India played some super negative cricket with the two spinners bowling darts with a 2/7 off/on field. Last few overs was great though. The hill was super rowdy when all the secoās buggered off to their āpeople leavingā posts. Biggest beer snake I had seen, nobody stopping the growth and then Watson being dropped.
Ashes tickets secured - cardiff and edgbaston. Waiting on the Lords ballot also. Pretty stoked.
fuckin hell, the channel 9 commentary is so bad.
I can handle the commentary team kinda (warnie is a fkn moron), but the amount of repetitive speculation is infuriating. they fairly crap on too.
might have to switch to the old tv/abc grandstand radio setup.
