Children/Teen’s bones, particularly wrists are still growing at this age, and undue stress on them can actually cause them drama’s later in life.
In another sporting discipline of mine, we limit what equipment they can use as ‘the big boy toys’ put excessive stress (and can actually damage) their growing wrists/bodies which will cause greif later in life.
In saying all that, if anyone thinks that the last page (or most) of this thread is legit advice, then you should probably turn your sarcasm-meter’s back on. ‘Form over function’ might be alright for some of the older guys, or those who don’t give a shit about their bodies/joints/whatev’s, but ‘Function over Form’ is important for someone who is still growing.
Enjoy it, upgrade it when you see fit and maybe steer clear of tall gearing. You don’t want to be 32 and have shit knees because of what you did when you were 14.
As for the brakeless thing… I know I was riding a skateboard at 14. There’s no way that’s “safe”.
