AIS Track Frame

Hey all,

Was wondering if we have any AIS track athletes lurking around the forum?

I’m currently doing my Honors thesis on bicycle frame design and need the geometry of a traditional AIS track frame (round tube) + tubing material + date of manufacture.

If anyone can help me out, please send me a pm or reply to this post.

Cheers.

Most AIS frames are Carbon.

Try getting in contact with BT. I am sure they would be more than happy to help out.

traditional AIS track frame

If anyone has one i want one.

Yeah, it’s kinda funny… I’m using the design strategy set out by RMIT/AIS when they first designed the ‘Superbike’ that was subsequently manufactured by BT. In the design strategy, they used traditional track bikes supplied by the AIS as a comparative base for each design they came up with.

Unfortunately, they didn’t publish the traditional frame geometry in their report.

TC Andy has had a few through his stables. Ask him I reckon.

Sweet. I’ll have a go.

Thanks!

think they use teschners…

I found a catalogue from treschners, but it mentions that they supply the AIS with road frames, not track frames.

It’s a mixed bag anyways. I’ve seen AIS track frames built by Kenevans, some by Brian Hayes, saw something mentioned about Europa… hard to know really.

Andy had this on his site only days ago:

Yeah i think Hayes built most, then there was arrangement for Decals, eh is Bryan Hayes @ BT, he would know for sure.

I know somebody on this forum with a pearl white AIS pursuit frame, vely vely nice
If you’re lucky he might pop his head up and PM you about it.

Hey
lve got a 1986 AIS frame that was raced in the 86 commonweath games thats made out of columbus aero tubing…Not sure who built it but im putting my money on Brain Hayes…More than welcome to check it out.

Did you find this at the Tip you Rat.

I have contacts in the AIS if you would like me to see if they can get you that info?

Darrell McCulloch was a mechanic for the AIS wasn’t he? Might have only been for roadies.

Would be great if you could! TC has fixed me up with some photos that I can use to get track geometry, so that’s all good, but it would be invaluable if I could actually get a frame to look over. I’m in Sydney, so if you know anyone around who’s willing to help out, shoot me a pm and I’ll send you my contact details.
Thanks for the help!

That would be cool tiprat, although I’m actually interested in round tube frames used by the AIS in the early 90’s. Are you in Sydney? If you are, I’ll definitely get in touch with you if I get the chance to use the massive wind tunnel on the other side of campus- could provide some interesting test results… but also means ALOT of work. Anyway, if you are in Sydney and don’t mind letting me test your bike, send me a pm or reply to this thread.
I’m not sure when I will be free to inspect/ what date the test will be scheduled, but I’ll keep you updated. Thanks!
