i was flipping through the DirtWorks 2010 catalogue and found this :-o
im doing a big bulk buy from DirtWorks and im deciding which frameset, the Steamroller or the Big Block. Though im not digging the curvy chainstay on the steamroller at all but heard very good reviews on them, whereas the Big Block looks great, especially the dropouts and forks!
ive googled and searched for this and cant find any proper reviews, so please help :?
i have no idea yet :?
the catalogue does not come with prices, but the cost doesnt bother me right now im working at a bike store so its kinda loaning and paying it off slowly.
yeah, i’ve just been looking at the big block, looks pretty good apart from the white socks on the fork and stays. frames from OS are about $550 landed and $1000 complete bike. the complete comes in glitter red finish, which looks stylin, apart from the white socks.
doesn’t seem like there’s many getting round, but with a track height bb, bidon mount, clearance for 32c tyres and seeming very robust, i’n definitely considering one.
I’ve been eyeing them off, they look pretty sweet. If I had some spare cash I’d definitely consider getting hold of one.
The Surly is probably the more reliable choice, if only because they have such a good track record (pun). They’re tough, have good everyday geometry, and plenty of clearance. That said, I’m not such a fan of the way the Steamroller looks, so the All City is a little more appealing.
You should be able to pick up a frameset locally for about $750 or so.
Perhaps, but as of yet I havnt heard of any of the droupouts (the trick frame) breaking there… and id assume a trick frame would put a lot more stress on weak areas than a general purpose kinda frame.
Given that there’s only a fairly small cut-out area and still support structure on the outside of the cut-outs, I don’t think it would actually be any weaker. Kinda like a hollow crank arm?
i’ve been reading up on these alot latley, the seem to be pretty awesome, prolly did a write up on them about a week about and a few other american blogs as well, all said good things, i would go this over surly any day, plus there is alot less of these rolling around so that adds to the charm for me
I’d have to disagree
Machined from a solid block, with that kind of thickness?
The weakest point of that whole track end would be where it is welded to the frame, and the cut-out is still braced through the middle…
I think they look sex because I love well engineered parts, not because of the artsy design
gypo and lam to the fucking rescue, i was going to go with a leader frame but once you get postage on those things they stop being so cheap, this is looking real good now!
