Almost Pro Bike Mechanic

Thought I was smart when I used a track nut sleeve bolt to secure the ‘hidden’ fifth bolt on my C-Rec cranks…

…if anyone finds a Campy chainring bolt around Melbourne’s northern suburbs, please get in touch.

Got my first flat on the cargo bike in 4 years
has a hub motor with weird washers and bolts, so removed everything and placed it down in order carefully. removed the wheel, chucked in the tube. Put everything back on. Didn’t fuck it up. Nice

Went to use it the next day. Flat tyre. Fuck. I must have pinched it putting it on.

Not buying another tube so figured I’d patch the old one. Took it out of the bin, looked for the puncture, nuthin. chucked in in the sink with water. Still nothing.

Turns out I’d got the tubes mixed up first time around and had put the one with the puncture back on.

Very good! twentychar

Somehow I’ve convinced myself that the reason DH bike saddles are pointed up is because when they are going down a hill their bike is pointed down, therefore making the saddle level.

I told this to user B_Rad a couple of weeks ago and he disagreed. And said it’s because of the upright riding position.

Which one of us is correct?

I think you’re right, but also to maybe catch you so you don’t fall forward out of the saddle.

they do it to trigger roadies. Successfully.

I prefer this answer.

They do it cos they basically never sit down.

Like those teeny bmx saddles.

They should start putting them on backwards to really mess with people.

Attempted to use filed down Shimano cables in a Campagnolo shifter #becausetightarse. They subsequently got stuck so I had to disassembly the ratcheting mechanism at the back of the shifter to remove the cable, then spent the better part of 45 minutes trying to get the goddamn spring back in place.

Don’t be a tight arse kids, especially when you’ve got multiple sets of Campagnolo suitable cables in a box under the bench.

Transplanting groupset to new build. Rear brake cable 1cm too short. I feel like I’m being trolled by the universe. Now I have to order a new campy brake cable. FML

Decided to bleed the brakes and install new pads on a bike I intend to put up for sale, because I’m a nice guy and like to sell a bike in good working order. All done, testing the brakes, and the XT M8000 front caliper then decides to bust a leak through the piston and leak oil all into the new Swisstop pads. And it turns out this sort of leak is common with XT calipers, and is basically unrepairable, so now I need to buy and install a new caliper (with new pads).

The days of brakeless track bikes were so simple …

this is terrible.

Bike industry has us over a barrel!

That’ll teach you to be nice

Towing boat trailer on hwy in middle of nowhere.
Trailer hub blows, disintegrates and whole wheel assembly starts to fall off (the end cap and bearing assembly is really the only thing holding a trailer wheel onto the axle).
Just manage to pull off the road, with the wheel wobbling at 45degrees and only the axle about 2mm.
1hr of many tool, jack, and dont-know-what-to-do dramas later, I find a solution in the bottom of my toolbox.
Spare fixed gear cog and some stem spacers with the lock nut are the perfect diameter to hold the wheel on (now without bearings) while I limp back to safety.
Thankyou fixies.
