Best road wheels under $1000

+1 for the da carbon laminates. i LOVE my set.like serious man-wheel love right now. but seriously they are very good.
campy wheels are very good too.

in terms of performance sram red is a race groupset, it works like one. i dare say campy will last longer though, i find sram to be of lower quality than campag, and i work on a lot of it, but it comes down to personal preference too i guess.

the dura ace CL wheels are sick, if i was going for factory built clincher training wheels i would not hesitate

personally i have gone with handbuilt 32h dt swiss 1.1 rims with dura ace hubs

as for groupsets, sram is too noisy, shimano shifts feel the best (imo) and is quiet, and campy looks the best - groupsets are not an easy decision

How about the fulcrum r3’s lovely wheels they have the same hubs as the top r1 as far as I can tell and campag build quality.

single or double eyelet? i like dt rims, but im scared of the single eyelets.

sram can be made silent, it just has to be st up properly…which isnt often done.

It really depends on your weight. Anyone under 80kg would be fine with the 1.1 single I think.

the model ones are the best wheels money can buy for under $1000
google them and check out the reviews

got a set on the way!

They’re double eyelets (I built em for him)

I agree with AlexB; SRAM red’s one-piece cassette is a noisy thing, no matter what. It just rings, like a bell.

You can pick up some 2009 racing 0’s for around 1K + shipping. Merlin Cycles (UK) had a few sets a few weeks ago, but probably all gone now. Different story for the 2010’s though.

Thanks all - I’ve got some DAs on the way, they seemed to be the consensus.
