BO GEAR - STRAP ONS LAUNCHED

BO GEAR - STRAP ONS

Introducing the latest foot retention system (FRS) this time to come from Australia. Vaguely resembling kinky bondage gear they are aptly called ‘Straps Ons’. In short, Strap Ons are a highly adjustable and hard wearing strap system for everything from fixed gear freestyle riding to everyday use. Designed from the ground up as an alternative to double straps and cages, the Strap Ons achieve maximum usability without compromising the feel of the ride.

The system has undergone research, design and rigorous testing throughout 2009 and has evolved into the current form. The straps are constructed from a highly abrasion resistant TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane), which has industrial uses in inflatable boats and hovercraft bladders. The system is bound together with no hardware or buckles; Instead the design features a system of adhesive backed and stitched hook and loop, which distributes the weight of the rider over the entire pedal/strap surface area. The Strap Ons provide an unparalleled amount of traction and grip to your pedals due to this large surface area over foot. In fact one of our gear testers has even gone on to describe riding system as though being “duct taped to the pedals.”

The actual system itself is quite stiff due to the multiple layers of TPU and Hook/Loop, however does not compromise comfort. In addition to this the adjustability of the system allows the rider to wear anything from the narrowest, slimmest kicks, all the way up to chunky size 13’s without affecting comfort or grip.

Throughout R&D the Strap Ons have received large amounts of feedback, with the majority of people commenting on their new found ability to move their foot around the pedal without feeling insecure. Traditional cages/straps are outdated and restrict the full usability of the pedals while compromising strength and safety. We at BOgear believe Strap Ons are the best alternative for the urban fixed gear rider looking for a foot retention system for every style of riding.

Summarising the features of the Strap Ons……

• No Hardware/Buckles
• Highly abrasion resistant materials
• High Adjustability (sometimes excessive)
• Stiff Construction
• Triple stitched in key areas

Does the strap rub on the crank?
Do you have to unfurl the whole thing to adjust size (like a Chrome radio holder)?

can you only use it on these pedals??? or on any pedal?

Yes and No. This is dependent on how tight your straps are set up. Personally i have mine fairly loose, as i move my feet around a lot and yes they do rub against the arms. Other guys who run them tighter don’t have any rub whatsoever. Also dependent on the distance between the pedal and crank arm when installed. Again the majority of folks running them use Twisted PCs. I am getting a hold of some animal and shadow conspiracy plastic bmx pedals to test out installation and see if they have anymore distance between the pedal and crank arm when installed.

Yes, however its no big drama’s. It take no more then a couple of seconds to unfurl and adjust. Some may see this as a con, but we see it as a pro as your adjustability options are endless.

We are currently putting together a list of compatible pedals and will be posted in a few days. Again most people are running Odyssey Twisted PC’s ($25-$30 and available in most bike stores) as they are very cheap and hold up great to an old fashioned thrashing. Animal Hamilton PC’s and Shadow Conspiracy pedals are being tested hopefully this week. From pictures they don’t look like they need to be modified like the Odysseys to fit the Strap Ons.

been running a pair of these for a few months and they eat traditional clips and straps for breakfast, they are really comfy and when riding are the closest thing to clipless that I have ever ridden… do yourselves a favour and get some.

ps. dont damage your shoes like traditional clips/straps

i didn’t realize my shoes were getting ruined by normal cages, straps…maybe i should get glasses

maybe you dont ride hard or enough? :stuck_out_tongue:

Awesome. Would love to see some on V12s

Its been done

The front strap needs to be installed on the bottom rail to give you the width. So go nuts kids…

good to see some local ingenuity at work.

when these get popular it’s going to look a bit funny if people start putting bmx pedals on nice old track bikes. but i guess people said the same about risers five years ago.

I <3 mine…I threw them onto my son’s Mongoose pedals which cam with his 20" freestyle bmx…they are metal pedals and I thought it’d be good to get them away from his shins…the straps fit perfectly into these pedals with no alterations needed

they are tight

too late: already on the hillbrick, but then that’s not particularly “old”.

fucken comfy, i have to say.

Very interesting!!

Do they come in black leather with studs?

I can’t stand BMX flats (with no foot retention) on track bikes.

must…resist…urge…to…post…NSFW…product…images…

I haven’t yet had a set of shoes that haven’t got rub marks from cages and I’ve tried a lot of different cages, metal and plastic. In the BO Straps I’d be confident bringing my old Julius Marlows out for a whirl without risking them getting destroyed.

Also Vans + BOGear straps = win

I hope they’re not leather.

yeah. are they leather?

Reckon these will be compatible with MKS pedals or no chance?
