Thanks. It does the job and it was a good shed project stripping it down, re-greasing everything, truing the wheels, getting some new parts and building it back up again.
Here’s another hand in the air for moustache bar happiness. Porteur bars are great for pitter pattering around town, but are mega hopeless for anything else. Moustache bars can be used for easy ridin (though lack of “flare” on the extensions means sore wrists for me after a while) but offer more hand positions, especially for smashing it.
I suspect people who dont like mooustache bars are using them as town bars and not swapping positions enough.
As an alternative to the brake placement Blakey put up, a little further out means you can hold the transition from straight to bend, which is close to the bar’s widest point and makes for better controlled braking. You can also then hold the brake clamp between your fingers while hammering in the bends and feel like a fighter pilot with your finger on the trigger to fire rockets at anyone up the road. You are so far hooked into the bend down there that you dont need to clamp your hands all the way around the bar for security.
Stache bars are rad. Porteur/milano bars are for people in suits/dresses.
I’ve been riding on the moustache bars for over a month now and I think they’re great. I never do long trips anyway and they’ve never felt uncomfortable for my wrists. I ended up getting Goldfinger brake levers because I liked the look of them but I have discovered that the spacing is less than great with my small hands but I’m going to have to learn to live with that.
