Brisbane - flood warning - sand bagging

Hey guys, as the water from Toowoomba will go through the creeks and into the Brisbane River eventually, and as the dam water is released the Brisbane River will rise much more than the king tides that put several CBD car parks under water in the last two weeks.

Here are the next effected areas, and where to collect sand bags from. I’m helping my mate today sand bag his house as he lives on a creek in a low lying area, if anyone else needs a hand filling bags or anything else in the South Brisbane area, email me: rayjer61@gmail.com.

"The 30 suburbs set to experience flooding tomorrow are: Albion, Auchenflower, Bowen Hills, Brisbane City, Bulimba, Chelmer, Coorparoo, East Brisbane, Fairfield, Fig Tree Pocket, Fortitude Valley, Graceville, Hemmant, Indooroopilly, Kangaroo Point, Lytton, Milton, Moggill, Murarrie, New Farm, Newstead, Norman Park, Oxley, Pinkenba, Rocklea, Sherwood, South Brisbane, Tennyson, Yeronga, Yerongpilly, Windsor and Wacol.

Council has asked residents in flood-prone areas to collect sandbags from the following locations: Darra Works Depot, Shamrock Rd, Darra; Morningside Works Depot, Redfern Street, Morningside; Newmarket SES Depot, Wilston Rd, Newmarket and Zillmere Works Depot, Jennings Street, Zillmere."

The council have been nice enough to put a big red dot 100m from our place on their flood watch map (it’s a PDF). I’ve moved the nice bikes upstairs as well as the record collection. Not going to worry about sandbagging as we are pretty high up at our place, although probably going to help the neighbours tonight as their places are below the '74 flood line.

I took these photos this morning as I was coming over the green bridge towards UQ. Highest I’ve ever seen the river.

I had family in BNE in the '74 floods, looking at the photos the water level was damn high indeed.

Hope you all stay safe and keep your bottom brackets dry.

Alerts for people in West End are to move to higher ground! The river is going to rise pretty high today, but even higher tomorrow. Keep safe people

ditto - stay safe peep’s, looking kinda heavy up there

Good luck to all affected.

Holy shit, kids. Look after yourself, and keep away from floodwaters. Good luck.

This is crazy.

Please stay safe.

holy shit

the footage of the car getting sucked into, and then under the bridge really brings home the force of the flood waters!

please everyone stay safe, and if any doubt, get the fuck out!!

One amazing thing that I read today is that it takes approx 15cm of moving water to knock a person off their feet and sweep them away, and 60cm for a car. Scary.

Good luck and stay safe guys. Hope you’re not affected too much

Can’t believe you’re not riding! … n+1

The worst to come is probably tomorrow arvo and friday morning where they are predicting a huge tides in the brisbane river.

Stay high and dry guys. Just heard from some friends in QLD who got flooded out, have lost everything but are alive.

The sister of miss f_b_m is in West End and has decided to stay; what the fuck!?

Stay safe guys

West End is quite a large suburb and has both very low lying and quite high places. The media just says “blah” suburb has been evacuated and it doesn’t give a complete picture of what is happening. I’m sure your sister will be fine.

i can’t believe this is happening to inner city hipsters. i mean, country folk are prepared and can deal with this kind of thing. but really, no amount of fixed gear bicycles and rare crass bootlegs are going to help you now…

Just got back from a ride around my local area. For those who know Norman Creek on the border of the Gabba and Coorparoo you’ll recognise a few of these places:

Bike path just off Deshon St, Woolloongabba

Turbo Dve Bridge just off Deshon St, Woolloongabba

Brisbane River at mouth of Norman Creek, Lytton Rd, East Brisbane

Jeepers. I used to live on Norman Cres.

I’m just down the road from norman creek, it started overflowing a few hours ago. At least the rain has slowed now.

actually, i just got heard about gypsy’s flood party on facebook. i stand corrected.

gypsy, you rule so hard dude.
